Not an oxymoron: Gabby speaks sense

Agbonlahor urges Aston Villa fans to back Alex McLeish

Villa fans have concerns over McLeish's perceived defensive approach, but Agbonlahor sees "exciting times ahead".

He said: "To those fans who don't seem to be happy, my message is to give him a chance and see what he can do."

Agbonlahor added: "At Birmingham his team had to play a certain way and some Villa supporters seem to be worried about that kind of style because it's not Villa's way.

"But with the talented group of attacking players he'll have at his disposal here, it will be a lot different and I'm sure that's another reason why he's taking this challenge.

"He'll do well here. He'll do a good job for the club."

Good old Gabby.  I'd imagine that will go down excellently with our ugly sisters down in Small Heath.

Can't see much that's insulting in there.  They would be expected  to play a certain way because a strategy built on a solid backline and defensive mentality is generally the best way to stay in the league (Bolton, Stoke), rather than win lots of plaudits like Albion used to and Blackpool but get hammered most weeks.  I admit there are exceptions to rule, Blose being one of them.

Just had chat with neighbour who's a nose...he's gutted on 2 counts: 1 Blose have lost the best manger they've ever had; 2 He's come to the Villa
He had nothin but praise for AM and said pretty much the same as Gabby: we've got better players, especially some good forwards who AM will love working with and will get to play to full potential. He said: "While the Villa are going up, we'll be going down and I can't see a way back."
Brilliant!
He reckons the kids will feature more too.
Only realised today what a good guy my neighbour is!

On a tangent, his brother Charisma (yes Charisma) has just signed for Bolehall Swifts.

I played against him once. Well I say that but actually I chased him for 90 minutes.

A reminder that it's nice to have a supporter who plays for your club.

Good for Gabby.
Perhaps with some managerial stability now,  proper pre-season preparation, Mcleish is the man to help get Gabby back to his best.

It was partly him being played in the wrong role I agree. But he also had injuries messing up his pre season preparation.
Gabbys usually shit hot at the start of the season.

The first game I ever refereed in the Midland Comb. was at Bolehall Swifts.  I abandoned it for a thunder storm that wouldn't pass over, this was in the middle of.......August FFS.  I'd been nervous about it all day and this had to happen.  It could only happen to me!  As an aside a lad I worked with at the time was an official at Bolehall.  Glad to see they're still going.
