Can't understand why you'd think our better players will want to go now AM has been appointed?  Is this the reason Young is off?  Or is it that he's been tapped up by Man Utd?

With Downing, does anybody really think had Martin Jol for example walked in rather than AM that he'd suddenly sign a new 4 year deal?? I'd say that's off the mark.  If Liverpool or one of the other 'top 4' bats their eyelids he'll be off if he can, regardless.

Players go when they think they can improve their money and chance of recognition.  It's simple really,  until we regularly qualify for the Champions League we will always struggle to keep our better players, who, by definition we will have being a best of the rest style team along with Spurs, Everton, Sunderland and whoever has a good year from the tire below (Bolton etc etc).

We only need one striker with the 6-3-1 formation

Keep guzan unless we get a better back up keeper.

I would get rid of Guzan, Dunne, Beye, Warnock, Ireland and Heskey. With Young a certainty to go, we could probably get about 30 million to add to the transfer budget. With the others that have already been realised, thats the dead wood gone, and a fresh start all round.

Whats the chances of AM working some kind of small miracle with Ireland? Slim to none I guess, but would be quite a prospect to see an on form Ireland working with Bent.

......................Marshall........................
Young.....Dunne......Collins...Warnock
.............Makoun.......Petrov................
Albrighton.........Ireland........Downing
........................Bent..........................

Our side as it currently stands.  Heskey, Fonz, Gabby, Delph, Clark, Parish, Lichaj, Bannan, Cuellar on the bench or in the squad.  For me, we need to replace one of the centre backs, the keeper, possibly the left back, unless he pulls his finger out of his arse, Petrov needs replacing, we also need a third winger. Ireland out, for Adam. N'Zogbia in as the third winger.  I'd like Luke  Young to stay, Clark, Bent, Downing, Albrighton, Delph, Makoun all to stay.  The rest can be replaced over the next two years or so in my opinion.

Heskey and Beye obviously. We should be looking to build a team around them. Re-sign Osbourne and Salifou as the spine of the team and get Harewood back to provide that little sparkle of "magic". Doug's Your Uncle! Top Four!

Doug is my Uncle? Excellent.  I hope he leaves me some money in his will.  Thanks for letting me know!

Guzan -has shown potential at very limited time.
L Young -i would like him as a rotation right back or left back, i rate him very highly
Dunne -although he is inconsistent, he is our best defender
Collins -just love his determination
Cuellar- like him very much, but he probably would want more playing time
Beye -hasn't proven he has value for the club for 2 years, big salary, he should be already out
Warnock -it depends on McLeish, can he get the best out of him? if yes, definitely keep him
Ireland -last chance this year, would be difficult to offload
Petrov -has value to the team, but should have a more limited part this season
Heskey -was very impressive when Houllier arrived, if he can do anything near to that, then keep him

all the other players should definitely stay. we also need
- starting Goalkeeper (Given)
- starting Right Back (Walker)
- third Winger (N'Zogbia, Larsson)
- energy, box to box Midfielder (Milner)

When you put it like that you kind of realise how much shit we could be in unless a large investment or very shrewd signings are made.

NEED:
Goalkeeper
Centre back
Left back
Right back
2 x midfield
Winger

...and god help us if Bent gets injured.

I actually think it'd be worth re-signing Carew for a year. I think McLeish is very much like O Neill as a manager and could get the best out of him. Get him playing at his best as often as MON managed to coax and you've got yourself 15 goals extra next season IMO. On his day he could be a hell of a foil for Bent too.

In terms of getting rid. Heskey should go because his wages are too high and he's too old now. Beye should go too. Other than that, I'd keep the rest and see how they do under McLeish. If only because our squad is so small anyway. We need 4-5 in just to make a decent 25 man squad.
