Yes, but he seems to have no more idea what is going on than the rest of us. Just about every media source has reported we interviewed Benitez.

Personally if the Martinez rumours are right (and lets face it we have approached him), then i reckon the cost cutting is in full effect. I expect a much smaller squad, no more 10+m plus players and a sell to buy policy. A bit more cash than he had a Wigan but not much - Everton MK2

I may disagree with Martinez as a candidate but I've no doubt he would be backed in the transfer market at least.

I believe if we were willing to spend big money we would be after a far better candidate than Martinez.

I think the whole idea of Martinez is to get a decent manager with a lot to prove who will be willing to come to us with a limited budget whereas a well established name such as Benitez wouldn't.

More worrying is what happens if martinez doesn't fancy us??

i reckon if ashley goes, you're talking 20m tops. If Martinez can offload any of the others then a bit more on top of that. As i said, a much more slimline squad with probably the youth players replacing the deadwood.  Bottom line is the wage bill was too high last summer and with the purchase of Bent, Makoun and Bradley(?) it hasn't gone down much - probably roughly the same if you factor in the departures. Still we'll find out soon enough i guess.

Entirely possible if it includes wages or potential sales.

Agree.
We'll be shopping in the clearance bins if he's appointed.
Grim.

We are not going to give away how much we have to spend to a potential manager who, if not appointed, is then free to blab it to the press.

I think that a new manager will probably be told this is the squad if you want to change it you do that yourself by selling some to generate funds or making what you have better.

That is around the type of investment needed unless we're happy to remain mid-table mediocrity...at best!
