Benitez treated us with complete contempt during Barry-gate (is that its title?), so he would definitely need to win me over.

I don't mind if it's Rafa his knowledge of Spanish football will be vast and he might find the next Alonso or somebody similar I know it's hypothetical but it could happen

Sky Sports News are reporting that Benitez will not become the Aston Villa manager.

Did he fail the interview or something? Board probably turned him down for being too successful.

At this rate, Curbishley will get the job by default.

For all the reasons listed in the thread that ran when Liverpool were after Barry, I would lose some respect for, and interest in, the 'cloob' if this happened. It isn't the fact he went after our player, which I understand. It wasn't the fact that he obviously swayed GB through other players. It's the bit when he whinged about other clubs doing it to his players (Alonso springs to mind), double standards at their worst.

What FSW did over Barry was in the interest of Liverpool football club - who were his employers at the time.

There is no difference between that, and what we did to Sunderland.

I have no grudge over that (nor with MON who was acting in the best interests of the Villa). The only mistake there was both of them started to air dirty linen in public , have a slanging match in front of the cameras and the whole thing was unprofessional.

But as for trying to prize Barry - sorry, he was right to try , and was only doing what Fergusun and redknapp do every week of the year.

Sorry mate :-) I think going after other teams players is part and parcel. It's just whingeing when they do it to you that annoys me.

He was doing what he thought was best for his club at the time, Barry himself was just as complicit if not more so what with his tabloid utterings.
If anything being hard-nosed like that could be a good thing if he became our manager.

I've got no problem with Benitez re: Barry. It's not even as if he got him. It's only if he tried to sign the lardarse again in July I might have an issue.
