Barclays Asia Trophy (27th-30th July 2011)
« on: June 01, 2011, 06:06:32 PM »
Didn't even know we were in it. Tickets now on sale if you fancy a holiday.

Quote
Aston Villa are pleased to announce that tickets for this summer's Barclays Asia Trophy 2011 will go on sale tomorrow [Thursday June 2] from 10am.

The four team knock-out tournament hosted at the 40,000-capacity Hong Kong Stadium on July 27 and 28 will feature Premier League trio Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea.

It also includes Hong Kong's current First Division League champions, Kitchee.

The Premier League have confirmed that the tournament format will be:

Match Day One Wednesday July 27

Aston Villa v Blackburn Rovers [kick-off: 6pm/11am GMT]
Chelsea v Kitchee [kick-off: 8.30pm/1.30pm GMT]

Match Day Two Thursday July 28

3rd v 4th place play-off [kick-off: 6pm/11am GMT]
Final [kick-off: 8.30pm/1.30pm GMT]

Villa are making their debut in the Barclays Asia Trophy although Marc Albrighton is looking forward to returning to Hong Kong having featured in the club's International Sevens tournament in the past few years.

He said: "I can't wait for the Barclays Asia Trophy and I'd even consider it as a possible holiday destination too in the future because it's such a great, interesting place.

"We'll feel like ambassadors for the Premier League and for England too while we're there. There will be other English teams out there too, like Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers, so there'll be a good rivalry also."

A small allocation of tickets will be available to purchase to 2010-11 and 2011-12 Villa season card holders at £36 per day, which will entitle supporters to watch both games on each matchday.

Any tickets still available with then go on general sale from Friday June 3 at 10am.

Supporters wishing to purchase tickets can call Consumer Sales on 0800 612 0970 or visit the Villa Village Ticket Office in person.

**The deadline for sales for the Barclays Asia Trophy 2011 is Friday July 1**

Why play on a Wednesday/Thursday rather than Saturday/Sunday?

And why do Chelsea get a bye to the Final, they're already much better than us!

because it's straight after work, local time.

I would imagine they'd get better crowds of a weekend when they don't have to worry so much about rush hour. I would've thought Sky would much prefer weekend kick-offs too.

it's like having twenty 20 cricket after work. it's not aimed at the hardcore fan, they're targeting the semi-interested people who don't mind staying late in town after work for a few hours, but wouldn't necessarily give up their weekend to watch it.

Get the local team to play Chelsea and bring on a couple of other English teams over as hangers-on.
