Gareth Southgate is currently working with the FA as the head of elite development.  From what I understand this involves sorting out youth football.  Confirmed by this interview:

Whilst I would not want him as a manger or coach he strikes me as a very intelligent guy who could help Villa in some capacity as a kind of diplomat and strategic thinker. 

Indeed reading that interview southgate says:
"You have to look at what drives you as a person and I like longer-term planning.”
