Hang on a moment.
We don't need to go down the old route of 'You've never coached a football club, so what would you know?' route, do we?

We do if unfounded and ignorant castigations are tossed about willy-nilly.

Fuck it I’m feeling optimistic, just had a bet on Van Gaal to be the next manager.

What odds did you get?

40/1. It’s highly unlikely but my thinking behind it was that it would be an unexpected appointment, a la Houllier and it’s someone who's only been fleetingly mentioneed and he would fit the ethos that were trying to achieve. It would also have the added bonus of sticking it right up the media.

Pelty, good to hear from you.
Would I be right in saying that we hadnt offered the job to Martinez yet, so turning us down isnt exactly accurate, he's just decided to honour a commitment he made after the last game of the season and secondly, is there any scrap of info you can feed us at all?

I'm alright, its just all these nervous plebs you see? :)

Pelty,

is there any truth in the speculation that we are determined to appoint a manager with Premier League experience? If so, I feel this would be a mistake as there are none, that we could realistically get, that strike me as having sufficient ability. I think we should shop abroad.

Sorry to disappoint you Pelty, but I couldn't afford the drop in salary, now would I wish to sully my CV by working for such a bunch of amateurs.  Anyway, can I ask in what capacity you're giving out information now?  It'd probably be better if the club were just open for a change rather than using a non exec-director's son to leak things on the sly. The last time you and the General acted in concert, Martin O'Neill ended up leaving.  You should be more careful.

Be that as it may, it does nothing to negate the fact that you know not a whit of what you speak yet seem to feel it that by being some sort of iconoclast, you are "sticking it to the man." Whatever gets your rocks off, Risso.

I'm not from a footballing background, but then neither is Randy Lerner, Paul Faulkner or your father General Krulak.  And bugger me, doesn't it show.

Let's say, hypothetically (seriously), a Low or an Ancelotti or a van Gaal is approached and he says, "No thanks."
Low? Not a name I've seen in the polls or betting before - but he said no, knock his card down Leighton. ;)

Pelty,

I think a few fans, myself included, just need a bit of reassurance that the club has something up their sleeve after all the negative press received in the last few days, justified or otherwise. Coming on to insult posters doesn't really help that much.

And similarly, if being used as some sort of unofficial mouthpiece to speak up for the gutless board of Aston Villa keeps you happy Pelty, then more power to you.
