Houllier staying is my first choice too.

Me too if hes given the all clear.
Until the next time ?
He was given the all clear in September and he lasted 7 months before an 'episode'.
I really don't wish ill on Gerard, but in reality, he has to call it a day.

I would rather Houllier stayed but if doesn't I would go for Ancellotti.  I hope it isn't Moyes don't think I could put up with his shit football.

Gone for Ancelotti

I was torn between him and GH - I would like GH to continue, I think he has done enough to show the future could be bright, it's just his health.

its the uncertainty of it all, he could carry on, then break down again in October, then we are left for the entire season up the creek.

I like GH, but I think its better for him and us to part (or find a new role for him)

Ancelotti - well if we could get him, its nearly as good as Mourinho isn't it. It would be the best "on paper" appointment ever, it is then down to "on pitch !"

Ancelotti would be my first choice but I think it is unlikely to come off. Jol would be second choice.

I'm pretty meh on the rest of them. Moyes reminds me of MoN too much. He plays the same brand of football and would doubtlessly make an uninspiring but safe choice. Hughes I don't like for some unknown reason. Houllier hasn't really turned out to be the best appointment and I'd be pretty uninspired by him staying. With Benitez it depends on which Benny turns up. The measured, knowledgeable and tactically astute man who led Valencia and initially Liverpool or the daft, paranoid, money frittering bearded mess that led in Liverpool last season.

Houllier out. Too old, too ill and a sub standard coaching team to boot. The club seemed determined to wallow in mediocrity. If we don't start showing some bloody ambition, we'll always be a feeder club for the top 4. If Houllier stays, I doubt whether we'll finish in the top half or even worse.

Ancelotti for me.

I must have missed the press release indicating that Villa didn't currently have a manager.

If he's fit, the job is still Houllier's.

If he's not, I've no idea.

Van Gaal seems to be barely mentioned. Whilst that's probably fair enough as he is an outside chance, he's probably as realistic as Ancelotti.

It would be difficult to see past either of them if they were remotely interested in  the gig though. Then you have the more obvious examples of Rafa, Hughes and Moyes.

Truth be told, I'd have doubts about any of them. But then I'm funny that way.

At least Fat Sam looks like he's going to West Ham. Hopefully Curbs and McClaren will be snapped up in a few weeks too, ruling them out.

Andy Gray

who cares about his sky "mistake"

when he was assistant manager we were runners up, more passion than GH,G Mac etc

foreigners don't work, seen it with Venglos in the past, Villa are a mainly home nation team & always have been
