I was homeless at the time living in a friend's back room and watched the match on a b/w portable.
When we scored I went mental and broke the rather flimsy single bed - it was the only piece of furniture I owned at the time but I didn't give a toss.
After the match went to the waterloo in Wollaston and drank my entire week's dole

I still get teary eyed when Withe shins it in...

I got married on Saturday June 5 1982 and this fact alone is responsible for me not being able to go to Rotterdam. (money/time etc) What I didn't realise at the time was that it wasn't  just one day in my life that I was going to suffer as a result of getting married!!
Anyway watched it on telly. Somehow didn't feel nervous either  before or during the match. After all it was fun for us getting that far when you consider Sir Ron Saunders  had left the club. But I guess it was his team and the team had inbuilt winning mentality.

I am going to play the video highlights of that and previous season for youngsters in my family to watch before the game starts tonight.

I was 17, unemployed, and didn't have a passport.

And now  at least  one of those 3 facts  has changed!!

I remember the 3 days so well and the game far, far better than the 57 Cup Final.
Sadly of the 8 of us who went together only 4 are still alive but each and every one of us had a lifetime of memories to keep us smiling through. We had all been part of the return from Div 3 to that day in Rotterdam. Each home and away match, each high, each low all led to that through ball, that cross and Withe's shin. It was fate and payback.
Wonderful

I'm never gonna get to see it, am I?

You sound just like my 22 and 19 year old lads (latter is also at NTU!); seriously, I hope your time will come - I did have to endure the 1966 - 1975 period of decline and then renaissance.

All worth it in the end though. I imagine you experienced the best periods post-war supporting the Villa. Lucky bugger.

went to school as usual that day  - couldn't concentrate at all from the excitement of it - i was 8 then. Ran home as quick as I could after it and remember being really nervous in the build-up. I watched with my mum and dad (both man u fans) on our old black and white telly. Remember being gutted when Rimmer went off injured and as the wave of attacks kept coming I thought we'd got no chance. I went mental when we scored jumping round the lounge room. The last 20 mins were excruciating. Seem to remember a karl heinz ruminegge overhead kick that i thought would go in. Top night, obviously was knackered the next day from getting no sleep.

Honestly can't see us winning it again in my lifetime - even qualifying for it is unlikely for the forseeable future, despite the 4 places being available. Although as my mate always says: Ya gotta believe Rob, ya gotta believe!!
