Professional football is littered with the discarded young lives of those who were going to be world beaters at 16, surplus to requirements at 20. Such is the way of the dog-eat-dog world of the top flight game. AVFC is not unique in that respect. Five or six years ago the PE teachers at our local High School were raving about a lad called Kieran Trippier. One of the staff who has been there for 20 years or so and has seen a few lads who went on to play professionally, reckoned he was head and shoulders above anyone else he'd ever taught. Anyway, Kieran made his way through the Man City academy, signed a professional contract, played for England at his age group level... and spent the last year on loan at Barnsley. I don't know how he's done at Oakwell, but I wouldn't now bet on him making it at the highest level.
Why would we release him if he's recently impressed in the Hong Kong Tournament? And does this mean Houllier thinks he's staying?
I wish him well, I just wonder why we have stuck with Osbourne and Salifou so long?
Lets sign Kieran Trippier
