The only reason he's got 39 is because he wanted 9 and 9 (Ireland), 19 (Petrov), and 29 (Collins) were already taken.

Given he's our record signing and Ireland will hopefully be racking up a psychiatrist bill for some other club next season I don't think there's any question about him getting the No. 9 shirt.

Who gave Ireland the No 9 shirt in the first place? Very odd move?

It was probably one of the bargaining tools used when he was telling everyone involved how he really, really didn't want to move to the Villa.

I still can't believe what a monumental cock up that signing has turned out to be.

Even if he turned out to be a good signing (and I thought he would!)giving him the number 9 shirt was a very odd decision.

Yep, give it to Darren Bent - although to refer to a bloke who's been at the club for the gestation period of a gerbil as a 'Legend' is a bit over the top

I'd leave him with the No39, it seems to suit him and it's worked out so far. The No9 shirt might put a bit of pressure on him pyschologically.

Bent's our main man and thereby he should be given the number 9 shirt.

That's rubbish! I'm sure Darren Bent could handle wearing the number 9 shirt... in fact, it might inspire him even more knowing who's had the honour in the past to wear that shirt.

Ormondroyd, Cascarino, Harewood, Ireland...

Definitely should be Bent. Who was the last quality number 9 we had? Angel?

A good argument spoiled by a bad example.  JPA was a lot of things, but quality wasn't one of them.

He was quality for two seasons at least.
