A definate no from me, not just the brolly thing but the ridiculous 'Dutch' accent interview is enough for me. How about Chris Hughton?, ok he might not have the experience but he did wonders at Newcastle and would be a breath of fresh air from the 'established' managers .
If we go down the DOF route then I think Hughton would be ideal.

No thanks. He's done well in Europe and with Boro, but would make us a laughing stock. Fans would never take to him and the club would be engulfed in negativity from the start of his reign.

Sums it up nicely.

Yeah, but he makes you feel like knocking them out of his silly face.

Would people please stop mentioning the job of Aston Villa manager with the likes of Steve McClaren and Chris Hughton. Those names are an insult to our club.
Get a grip!

inside there's probably a very good coach. On the outside, he's a royal cock. As well as he did in Holland, and he did do well, his off the field stuff will be brought up again and again as soon as we hit a sticky patch. Every time it rains, every time he has to do an interview, every time we play Arshenal etc etc.

No ta from the Toronto jury.

And as for the Curbishley suggestion - FFS!

If you ignore the fact that we're talking about Maclaren his CV is pretty much spot on for what we need.

1.  Worked under one of the world's top managers for a number of years
2.  Worked at a small club and built a decent youth system whilst keeping the club in the top division for a number of years.  Including a european cup final.
3.  Unsuccessful spell as an International coach where he managed top players and ego.  Mitigating circumstances where the talent of the individuals did not match expectations.
4.  Coached (under a director of football) and won a league with another unfashionable club.
5.  Coached in another country and generally fucked it up but...

If this was a young foreign coach I am sure we'd be giving him way more credit.  Unfortunately the tabloid fed nature of us fans means he would instantly be under pressure at villa and would not be given a chance.  It's a shame as he is probably a great coach, but I don't want villa to be the club that take the risk on him.

He spent loads at boro and they were still mediocre and he failed in Germany and with England. If he were a foreign manager he wouldn't get a sniff. Compare his record with benitez's!

he's about on par with Moyes for me on the excitment scale,

but Mclaren is damaged goods because of the England thing and would find it dificult to win the fans over,

Well whatever you have to say about the man I'll give him this much:  he's managed to get H+V to agree on something...  That's a fucking first.  Thank you for that Shteve, but jog on.
