12:56  Marc Albrighton: Hi all. Marc here. Hope you're all well. Fire away with your questions...

Thursday May 12, 2011 12:56 Marc Albrighton
12:56  Marc Albrighton: First question I have received is from the official Villa Facebook page...

Thursday May 12, 2011 12:56 Marc Albrighton
12:57  Marc Albrighton: It's who was my Villa idol growing up...

Thursday May 12, 2011 12:57 Marc Albrighton
12:57  Marc Albrighton: My idol was Dean Saunders. He was a great striker and always an exciting player to watch.

Thursday May 12, 2011 12:57 Marc Albrighton
12:57  [Comment From Chris Chris : ]
Random one - my school prom this evening - did you have one?

Thursday May 12, 2011 12:57 Chris
12:58  Marc Albrighton: Yes I did but I couldn't make it. It was the same weekend as my first days scholarship at Villa. I was gutted at the time but it worked out well for me in the end!

Thursday May 12, 2011 12:58 Marc Albrighton
12:58  [Comment From Aaron.F Aaron.F : ]
Marc, do you think you could force your way into the England squad in coming years ?

Thursday May 12, 2011 12:58 Aaron.F
12:59  Marc Albrighton: Yes that has got to be my aim in the future. I am proud to play for my club and it's a real honour to represent my country too.

Thursday May 12, 2011 12:59 Marc Albrighton
12:59  [Comment From Cracker Cracker : ]
Hi Marc, what do you think of the news that Stewart wants to extend his contact?

Thursday May 12, 2011 12:59 Cracker
13:00  Marc Albrighton: I think it's great news. Stewart is a great player and has well deserved his player of the year award.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:00 Marc Albrighton
13:00  [Comment From Natalie Natalie : ]
at your young age i think you are a fantastic player and i wish you all the best in your career

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:00 Natalie
13:01  [Comment From Jack Jack : ]
Marc - great season - my question is who has the best dance moves in the squad?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:01 Jack
13:01  Marc Albrighton: Nigel thinks he's got a few dance moves but from what we've seen they are poor!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:01 Marc Albrighton
13:01  [Comment From jack jack : ]
Marc who has the bet banter in the dresing room ?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:01 jack
13:02  Marc Albrighton: I would say Gabby. He's always a great laugh in the dressing room, always winding someone up. It's great fun in the dressing room.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:02 Marc Albrighton
13:02  [Comment From NorwegianVilla NorwegianVilla : ]
Can we count on you guys to still be at Villa Park for years to come and help Villa succeed?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:02 NorwegianVilla
13:03  Marc Albrighton: Definitely! I love playing at Villa and there's nowhere else I want to play. It's bright times ahead for the club and I want to go on succeed in claret and blue.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:03 Marc Albrighton
13:03  [Comment From Elliott Elliott : ]
How does it feel, being a Villa boy yourself, hearing the Holte chant your name?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:03 Elliott
13:04  Marc Albrighton: It's a very special feeling. Scoring in front of the Holte End against Manchester United would have to be the greatest feeling of my career so far. And here's to many more!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:04 Marc Albrighton
13:04  [Comment From Phil Phil : ]
Hi Marc - I saw some video of you playing golf. What do you play off and who is the best golfer at Villa?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:04 Phil
13:05  Marc Albrighton: That would have been on AVTV. I play off 16-18. I think Ginge plays a good round of golf.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:05 Marc Albrighton
13:05  [Comment From George George : ]
Marc, how's living on yoru own going? Have you got used to cooking for yourself yet?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:05 George
13:05  Marc Albrighton: Living on my own is good. I'm enjoying it. I started cooking but nowhere near as good as my mum's!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:05 Marc Albrighton
13:06  [Comment From Guest Guest : ]
who is your best mate in football??

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:06 Guest
13:06  Marc Albrighton: Elliot Parish! I have played with since we were eight-years-old at Villa. He's a good laugh.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:06 Marc Albrighton
13:07  [Comment From RobB RobB : ]
Marc, who would win a 100m dash in training?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:07 RobB
13:07  Marc Albrighton: Gabby without an absolute shadow of a doubt!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:07 Marc Albrighton
13:07  [Comment From Rowan Rowan : ]
which senior squad member helps the youth lads out the most?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:07 Rowan
13:08  Marc Albrighton: James Collins is great. Robert Pires is fantastic too while Gabby Agbonlahor helps you too - because he's been there and done it.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:08 Marc Albrighton
13:08  [Comment From Aaron.F Aaron.F : ]
Next season do you think you could get into double figures ?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:08 Aaron.F
13:09  Marc Albrighton: That's my aim but first and foremost I want to stay fit and play as many games as possible. If the club are playing well and winning games, I don't mind if I score or not!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:09 Marc Albrighton
13:09  [Comment From RobB RobB : ]
Marc, Fifa or Pro Evo?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:09 RobB
13:09  Marc Albrighton: FIFA!!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:09 Marc Albrighton
13:09  [Comment From Adam Adam : ]
Being that you are in the first team...in your opinion, who is the next youth 'star' to look out for?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:09 Adam
13:10  Marc Albrighton: I think Jordan Graham in a few years is going to be pushing for first team action. He is a tricky winger with great technique. Hopefully he'll be next in the long line of academy success stories.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:10 Marc Albrighton
13:11  [Comment From Ben Ben : ]
Has your confidence dropped from being on the bench in recent games ?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:11 Ben
13:11  Marc Albrighton: It's a squad game so I just have to be patient and be ready when called upon. That's vital in modern-day football!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:11 Marc Albrighton
13:11  [Comment From RobB RobB : ]
Marc, do you set yourself a goal/assist target at the start of the season? If so, what are you aiming for next year?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:11 RobB
13:12  Marc Albrighton: I don't really set myself targets for goals or assists. The key is working hard in every game to get as many as I can!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:12 Marc Albrighton
13:12  [Comment From Aine Aine : ]
I think you're a breath of fresh air in Villa and it proves that clubs can breathe through great talent. It must feel good to look at the villa academy and know the players have such potential

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:12 Aine
13:12  Marc Albrighton: It's great to see the academy doing brilliantly again this season and it's due credit to the coaches - Kevin and Tony.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:12 Marc Albrighton
13:13  [Comment From Jack Jack : ]
Marc, use to watch you as a reserve coming through the ranks, knew you was going to be big, did you always want to be a footballer?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:13 Jack
13:13  Marc Albrighton: Yes definitely. When I was little I always had a ball at my feet.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:13 Marc Albrighton
13:13  [Comment From Chris G Chris G : ]
How good does it feel to be wearing the claret and blue for a job?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:13 Chris G
13:13  Marc Albrighton: Amazing. It's a great feeling every time I wear it!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:13 Marc Albrighton
13:14  [Comment From RobB RobB : ]
Marc, when I play football and scamper down the wing and hit a shot at goal, my mind goes "ALBRIGHTON", what does yours say?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:14 RobB
13:14  Marc Albrighton: I just work hard to beat my man and when I shoot I just think 'Get in.'

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:14 Marc Albrighton
13:16  [Comment From Gavin Gavin : ]
To date, who is the best defender you've played against?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:16 Gavin
13:16  Marc Albrighton: Enrique who plays for Newcastle. He is an all-round great footballer. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the big clubs come in for him.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:16 Marc Albrighton
13:17  [Comment From mark mark : ]
what was your first Villa game as a fan? UTV!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:17 mark
13:17  Marc Albrighton: Villa won 4-2 against Liverpool. It was a classic.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:17 Marc Albrighton
13:18  [Comment From Gregg Gregg : ]
Best ground you've played at other then Villa Park ?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:18 Gregg
13:18  Marc Albrighton: I'd go for Old Trafford. It's a good venue to play football - but it's got nothing on Villa Park!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:18 Marc Albrighton
13:19  Paul Brown: That's time for Marc. He'd like to thank you all for your questions. He really enjoyed it! Stewart Downing is NOW with us.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:19 Paul Brown
13:21  Stewart Downing: Hi all. Great to be with you for this live chat. First up, can I thank everyone who picked me in the fans player of the season awards voting. Winning that means so much and I would really like to express my thanks to all of you. Your support every week is amazing and we, the players, really appreciate it. On the subject of supporters, I’d like to say a big hello to Villa Twitter follower Jo-Jo Donovan. Paul Brown from the media team tells me Jo-Jo is my “number one fan” and has even set up a hash tag called ‘stewiesarmy’ for fans to comment on my performances. That’s brilliant and I really appreciate it. Right let’s get going.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:21 Stewart Downing
13:21  Stewart Downing: First question comes in from Twitter. Bima Muhammad: What do you want to achieve with Villa next season?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:21 Stewart Downing
13:22  Stewart Downing: We've got to be looking at Europe. And we'd love to win something - FA Cup, Carling Cup. That would be the aim for us.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:22 Stewart Downing
13:22  [Comment From Jake Jake : ]
Stewart, who was your boyhood hero?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:22 Jake
13:23  Stewart Downing: Ryan Giggs. Growing up as a left-winger, he was the main man. Look at all the awards he has won throughout his career. Absolutely phenomenal. The way he has now switched and adapted to central midfield is tremendous.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:23 Stewart Downing
13:23  [Comment From pete pete : ]
hi stu, your form this year has been good, who has been your toughest foe this year?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:23 pete
13:24  Stewart Downing: Enrique. He is strong and quick and I was impressed with him.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:24 Stewart Downing
13:24  [Comment From The Real Michael BRadley The Real Michael BRadley : ]
Best goal you scored?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:24 The Real Michael BRadley
13:25  Stewart Downing: I enjoyed the header against Stoke. I don't score many with my head so the stick I got in the dressing room from the other lads was unbelievable.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:25 Stewart Downing
13:25  [Comment From Gavin Gavin : ]
Anyway, do you think your man of the match performance for England against Ghana helped silence a few doubters who thought you couldn't perform at international level?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:25 Gavin
13:26  Stewart Downing: You are always going to get doubters. You are always going to be the hero one minute and then they'll want you out the next. I am pleased with how it's gone with England this season.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:26 Stewart Downing
13:26  [Comment From Blake Blake : ]
If you weren’t a footballer, what would you have been instead?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:26 Blake
13:26  Stewart Downing: Still in football - perhaps a coach.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:26 Stewart Downing
13:26  [Comment From aaron.f aaron.f : ]
How ironic was it that when you broke your foot it was Petrov who caused it !

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:26 aaron.f
13:27  Stewart Downing: I think it was more strange that about two weeks later I was coming here! The first person I saw when I came through the door was Stiliyan! To be fair he had rung me to make sure I was alright when I got the injury. That was good of him.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:27 Stewart Downing
13:28  [Comment From Paul Edwards Paul Edwards : ]
Hi Stewart, I think you'd be a revelation in a central role with your vision. What are your thoughts?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:28 Paul Edwards
13:28  Stewart Downing: Perhaps in the future. I must be honest and at the moment I really enjoy playing out wide. But a lot of wingers do tend to move inside later on their career.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:28 Stewart Downing
13:28  [Comment From RobB RobB : ]
Stewart, if you could get any player to cross balls into at Villa, who would it be?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:28 RobB
13:30  Stewart Downing: I'd have to go Alan Shearer. He was brilliant when he was playing - the ideal man to cross to because you know he'd get on the end of it nine times out of ten. But saying that, Darren gets on the end of things too. His goal against Stoke was tremendous - what a header!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:30 Stewart Downing
13:30  [Comment From Ben Gardner Ben Gardner : ]
Whats your favourite ground to play at?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:30 Ben Gardner
13:30  Stewart Downing: Villa Park of course! But of the others I'd go for The Emirates because of the look of it.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:30 Stewart Downing
13:31  [Comment From George George : ]
How did you pick up the nickname "DJ" Downing? Do you end up DJ'ing the Villa end of season parties?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:31 George
13:32  Stewart Downing: Jon Woodgate and the lads at Middlesbrough started calling me it. All the other lads picked up on it. It's stuck. I haven't been asked to DJ at the end of season awards dinner yet but hopefully one day!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:32 Stewart Downing
13:33  [Comment From AndyMilne AndyMilne : ]
Do you have any preference to playing on the left or right wing? What reason is there for having a right footed player on the left, and a left footed player on the right?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:33 AndyMilne
13:34  Stewart Downing: Up until this season I would have said the left but after this term I'd say I don't have a preference. The reason is probably that you're coming in on your strongest foot and they're on their weakest foot. The switching has worked well this season. If you don't get much joy on one side, it's good to switch and give it a go on the other side too.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:34 Stewart Downing
13:34  [Comment From AndyMilne AndyMilne : ]
I voted that header for my goal of the season :)

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:34 AndyMilne
13:34  Stewart Downing: Good on you. Thanks for the vote. Can't believe it wasn't number one!! Gutted.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:34 Stewart Downing
13:34  [Comment From The Real Michael BRadley The Real Michael BRadley : ]
Lets hope you score at arsenal on sunday! UTV!!!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:34 The Real Michael BRadley
13:35  Stewart Downing: That's the plan!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:35 Stewart Downing
13:35  [Comment From Colin Colin : ]
Love your commitment to Villa , what is it about the Villa you really like?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:35 Colin
13:36  Stewart Downing: It's a family club. You feel very welcome and there's a great environment. I love the fact the team has great ambition for the future.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:36 Stewart Downing
13:36  [Comment From Tony Tony : ]
Who is the loudest person in the changing room?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:36 Tony
13:37  Stewart Downing: Nigel without a doubt. He never stops talking - mostly about himself! Ha!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:37 Stewart Downing
13:37  [Comment From smee smee : ]
What other sports do you play / watch?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:37 smee
13:37  Stewart Downing: I love watching boxing and I don't mind my tennis either.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:37 Stewart Downing
13:38  [Comment From Gavin Gavin : ]
Cheeky one, but its my Sons Birthday today, he's 9. Could you wish him a happy birthday please. His name is Cameron.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:38 Gavin
13:38  Stewart Downing: Happy birthday Cameron!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:38 Stewart Downing
13:38  [Comment From Seema Seema : ]
Any chance of u getting on Twitter??

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:38 Seema
13:38  Stewart Downing: No chance! Twitter is not for me. Twitter is for twits!

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:38 Stewart Downing
13:39  [Comment From danny.a danny.a : ]
Stew, who is the best player you have ever played with either villa, middlesborough england etc?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:39 danny.a
13:40  Stewart Downing: England is Steven Gerrard. Mark Viduka at Middlesbrough. Because I couldn't pick one, I picked two instead.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:40 Stewart Downing
13:40  [Comment From Rosa Rosa : ]
My club Villa Sweden voted you as the best player of the season. What do you think of that?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:40 Rosa
13:41  Stewart Downing: It was great to meet the lads from the Lions Club in Sweden. Anders Svensson handed over the award after the Wigan game. It was fantastic. It's great to get claret and blue support all over the world.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:41 Stewart Downing
13:42  [Comment From Rosa Rosa : ]
Do you have any annoying habbits before you enter a game?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:42 Rosa
13:42  Stewart Downing: No I don't think so. I am not superstitious. I am just concentrating on the game.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:42 Stewart Downing
13:42  [Comment From Jordan Jordan : ]
Hi, i play for a girls football team, i dont enjoy it anymore though :( . do you think it will change? should i give up playing ? or carry on and see how it goes?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:42 Jordan
13:42  Stewart Downing: You must carry on. My motto is 'Never Give Up!'

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:42 Stewart Downing
13:43  [Comment From Dan Dan : ]
Stewart, the goal you scored against Burnley in the Carling Cup this season was the goal of the season for me, do you see yourself grabbing another screamer against Arsenal or Liverpool?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:43 Dan
13:43  Stewart Downing: I really do hope so. We're really determined to finish the season strongly.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:43 Stewart Downing
13:44  [Comment From Ben Gardner Ben Gardner : ]
Hi Stewart, where would you sit at Villa Park if you were a fan?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:44 Ben Gardner
13:44  Stewart Downing: The Holte End! It's got to be hasn't it...

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:45 Maradona10

13:47  [Comment From Barry Barry : ]
Hi Stewart, the Holte End really want to get a Stewart Downing song/chant that will stick around the ground - any suggestions?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:47 Barry
13:47  Stewart Downing: No ideas but it would be great to hear my name sung from the Holte End. That would be special.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:47 Stewart Downing
13:49  [Comment From Dan Handley Dan Handley : ]
Who would win in a race between you and Gabby? How about while dribbling?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:49 Dan Handley
13:49  Stewart Downing: Gabby easily. He is fast as anything. I think he'd beat anyone in the Premier League in a race.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:49 Stewart Downing
13:49  [Comment From Connor Connor : ]
Whos gonna win July 2nd . .Haye or Klitschko?

Hi Stewart, if Boro get promoted next season will it feel strange to play against your old club?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:50 wotcha mate
13:50  Stewart Downing: Yes it would be strange, certainly at the Riverside. I'd like to think I'd get a good reception there.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:50 Stewart Downing

Who is the most skilful player at Villa at the minute??

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:51 Phelim

Hi Stewart, I've heard you and Jonathan Hogg travel back up north together sometimes. Who has the better music taste in the car?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:51 gary
13:52  Stewart Downing: We used to travel back at the same time. To be fair, we have the same taste in music. We love funky house and even stuff like Kings of Leon. We like the same stuff.

Hi Stewart, you have been amazing this season - do you find it strange watching yourself on Match of the Day or on the Villa website?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:52 sally
13:53  Stewart Downing: Yes I do actually. It is strange watching yourself play. Sometimes you watch and think 'why didn't i do that.' But it's easy to do that after the game.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:53 Stewart Downing

Do you see yourself as villa skipper in seasons to come? I think you're more than capable of influencing the lads?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:53 Stan
13:54  Stewart Downing: Never thought about being a captain until I was at Middlesbrough. I really enjoyed it. I have been captain here once before in a pre-season game. It was a great honour and if the opportunity arose again, I'd be thrilled to take the armband.

Do you think you we can beat Arsenal on Saturday ?

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:54 Wolves Villain
13:55  Stewart Downing: Of course I do. They have come off a bad defeat against Stoke. Anyone can beat anyone. They are a quality side though and it will be tough.

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:55 Rizki Panosa
13:55  Stewart Downing: He's a superb captain. He is great for the lads. He's always thinking about the lads. That's what you want from a captain.

Stewart, what are your thoughts on FC Barcelona? They've just wrapped up their third title in a row.

13:56  Stewart Downing: I would like to see Manchester United win the Champions League but I think Barcelona will. They are the best team in the world at the moment. They are fantastic.

Hi Stewart, 1st off congratulations on your awards and performances this season. Out of the players coming through the academy/reserves who do you think will be making an impact over the coming seasons??

Thursday May 12, 2011 13:58 Tom Parmenter
13:59  Stewart Downing: I think Ciaran and Marc have made a big impact and I think Barry can make a big impact too. I've been impressed with Andi Weimann and I think Gary Gardner has a great chance too. Andras Stieber is very good. He's trained with us before and I thought 'He's good.'

If you could have any number at Villa what would it be?

Thursday May 12, 2011 14:00 Elliott
14:00  Stewart Downing: I have never been fussed about numbers before. I've always liked number 11 - but Gabby might have something to say about that. When I joined I asked for number 19 because that was my number at Middlesbrough. But obviously that's Stiliyan's. I am happy with 6.

Great read, especially heart-warming to hear of Marc's love for the club, and Downing appears to be committed also.

My 'inside source' tells me Young's already agreed a £25 Million move to Man Utd, and I tell you what, with these two lads they can bloody well have him. Can't wait to see Marc play a bit more regularly next season (fingers crossed)

Exactly, and hopefully then Bannan will take Marc's place on the bench to bring on if either Downing or Marc need coming off.

Flawless. We might score from a few more free-kicks with downing as well.

Absolute rubbish

25 million for a player with one year left?

If that happens I will give you a tenner

Only Man City would be stupid enough to do that

If that happens I will give you a tenner
