As former Villa keeper John Donne once wrote, "never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee".

Don't worry, for the last match they've brought in Dave Chance to sing You'll Never Walk Alone

I heard they earmarked that little number for Houllier to sing on his comeback game. Obviously with arms aloft and walking amongst the Liverpool fans.

How about no music whatsoever? Let the players run out to the sound of the crowd.

I don't know what surprises me more: The fact that someone thinks bells ringing "Bring out your dead" is the ideal introduction to a football match, or that four games on people in power at the club still haven't pulled the plug on them.

We really have had a season of embarrassment both on and off the pitch haven't we.

In terms of setting the mood, the bells thing works fantastically, but that is only because the prevailing mood in B6 at the start of matches this season has been one of misery, doom and foreboding.

Ideally, we'd start matches without that reminder of impending misery, though, so I too find it incredible they're still persevering with it. They tried the thing with the song, it was worth a go, it didn't work, forget about it and move on.

I fully understand what the club are trying to do in associating 'The bells are ringing' with our club and making it some kind of anthem.
But,  instead of having a single bell tolling out, why not have a proper explosion of bells peeling out.
Make it sound joyous and uplifting, not like  Princess Di's bloody funeral procession.

please please please please please play ACDC's Hells Bells for the Liverpool game.  I would like a large inflatable devil to also be lowered into the stadium, ideally landing on Dalglish.

Yes please.

The local congregation got confused when hearing those bells and filed into Aston Parish church a little early for Choral Evansong.

I think it would be more appropriate to have those bells tolling at the end of the match.
