Rafa The Gaffer interested in Villa job?
« on: May 01, 2011, 01:11:56 PM »
Mirror Football has a story entitled "Benitez Wants Villa Job" and in usual sloppy journalism has no quotes, which would, to be fair, be in poor taste considering that there's not currently a vacancy. However they do quote him as saying:

"I like the responsibility to decide the ambition of a club – the plan, the academy and the young players, all of these things together. I have experience now and can do well – especially with staff who know the Premier League."

Surely Benny has blotted his copybook with Villa. Even a nut like him must realise he shouldn't even think about coming here. As far as I can remember of past managers-I have only ever dissed McNeil and DOL -and even pug-nose got the benefit of the doubt for 18months.
If Benitez comes, I honestly think I would be against him from the start.

I don't like the bloke as he seem to be Spain answer to David O'Leary to me.

Can he do the job without spending stupid money. Make us respectable team like Valencia before they start to struggle.

If Benitez came in and won the FA cup next season would Houllier take the credit.

Rafa? Yes wouldn't say no, if there is a vacancy. Certainly preferable to Hughes for me.

Fat Benny has a screw loose if you ask me, not the full ticket, and wouldn't like to see him as our manager.

Wouldn't mind him. A bit meh but he has a good CV and record with Valencia and in spells Liverpool.

In the debit column I'd have to question his sanity and whether he is as good as he used to be.

Going on his past record since leaving Valencia I would say no. The only couple of successful signing he got in at RedScouse were a Keeper, ( and yes, he could get us one), a midfielder who he then pissed off and wanted to replace with Barry in Alonso and Torres who he spent loads on and then manage to upset him. He was lucky he had Gerrard in good form for the first few years and no matter what we say about Carragher he is a solid defender. There are question marks on the rest of his purchases.

He then went to Inter who had done the double and admittedly Mourinho is a hard act to follow but he was sacked after 6 months.
