So is Crystal Palace a permanent place (apart from possibly being an underground station)?

It used to be a big glass building, it burned down in 1936.

Romulus - birthplace of Darius Vassell & Zat Knight

And me.

Romulus is a place, or, at least was a place that I and a few others on here frequented during the late 70's  when the team Romulus was formed.  I don't know if it has any connection to the football team but can't see any other reason why a team from Sutton Coldfield should be called so.

I'm not sure it's a place, I assumed they were named after the mythical founder and first King of Rome, bearing in mind their badge has a picture of what looks like a Roman warrior on it.

Turning this around...

Belfast, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London don't have league teams bearing their name.

Off the top of my head I'm struggling to think of any other major European city not represented in a league team's name apart from Lisbon.

Benfica's full name is "Sport Lisboa e Benfica", so they have the name of the city.

There are four Belfast clubs in the NI top division, as DeKuip says none are named after the city. Linfield was originally a works team named after the factory they were based at. Glentoran isn't a place I don't think (and they play in Sydenham), and Crusaders obviously isn't a place name. The only one of the four Belfast clubs named after a location is Cliftonville (an area of Belfast).

Staying in Northern Ireland, until 1999 there was also Distillery, until they spoiled things by adding Lisburn to their name.

On a similar theme - there was Belfast Celtic until 1949.

Two more in the Highland League:

Deveronvale are named after a river and play in Banff.

Formartine United play in Pitmedden, Formartine exists only as the name of a committee area of Aberdeenshire.

FC Fyn - Danish First Divison side based in Odense on Funen

AIK - Allmänna Idrottsklubben - Swedish Premier League side base in Solna, a municipality in Stockholm County

Syrianska FC  -another Swedish Premier League club from Södertälje (they have an interesting Wimbledon-like history - look them up on Wikipedia like I did...)
