Bent for sale?
« on: April 24, 2011, 09:31:00 AM »
With some of the top 5-6 clubs being short of a natural finisher to turn them into serious challengers, anyone expecting a big money bid for bent in the summer? God i hope not.

If we get about 5 times what we paid for him, maybe.

I don't think for one second he is up for sale but I also don't know what we will do if we are offered a price somewhere between the £35m paid for Carroll and the £50m paid for Torres.

They are the 1 out of the six that maybe need someone like Bent, but i don't think he's a typical Wenger signing. They'll get someone from the continent cheaper. The others very definately don't need him, as good as he's proving to be.

Players like Bent are priceless and I find it staggering that Sunderland sold him despite the big bid as they have to replace him.  I would find it staggering if we sold him so soon as he signed a 5 year deal (I think) in January.

Man Ci££y are the only ones who may come in with a crazy bid ie. +£50m, with Tevez rumoured to be off and Ballottelli will be gone they will need another striker to partner Djeko

I think you're right, they're also the only club that could afford him too. When you look at Toress at £50m, Carroll at £35m. Bent would have to be reaching a fee between the two.
Luckily for us Bent obviously didn't seem trendy or Fantasy Football enough for Citeh in January and they went for Dzeko instead.

The over riding factor though, is I don't think Bent would want to leave us anytime soon. He seems very happy and he's now an England regular because he's playing for Fabio's favourite team. God forbid what happens to the poor lad when 'Appy Arry is given the job next year!!

You scared the shit out of me for a split second and then I saw the question mark.
The answer is no.  He is the best finisher in the country and we are very lucky to have a board that were prepared to shell out for him.  He will bang in 25 goals plus next season for us and no amount of money would tempt Randy to sell.  I'm sick and tired of the media unsettling our players with this sort of speculation and we don't need our own fans giving the likes of Liddle, Holte and Nursey ammunition.  I don't mean to jump on you but the hacks love to make stories out of nothing and I could just imagine a story in the mirror on Monday entitled "Villa fans fear Bent exit".  He is going nowhere.

If Torres is worth £50 million, Bent's worth £100 million. Any less, and they can get lost (although I'd take £85 million plus Milner).

And who would you buy to bang in the goals with Bent's ratio?  Who could we realistically attract with his scoring record as a replacement?  It's all good and well having 85 mil to spend but we have been crying out for a finisher for years and I don't think there's anyone better.
