Easter Monday fixtures...
« on: April 23, 2011, 12:02:30 PM »
I say Yes.

It can make the end of the season interesting with two games in three days.

But I guess the Champions League takes priority and spoils the chance of this.

Yes- i remember going to see Fulham away at Reading with my dad a fair few years ago. The sun was out, the away fans were in good voice and large numbers. That was a lower division game then. Did the top flight once have fixtures then on Easter Monday?

Im sure when we were in the 3rd division we played Friday, Saturday, Monday at Easter.  Big crowds and plenty of excitment. Too bloody cushy by far these days !

I voted yes, but as an aside, it's the (Barclays) Premier League. It hasn't been the (incredibly naff) Premiership for about 3 seasons. That is all.

As if one dreary game isn't enough to ruin a bank holiday weekend!

I think you're right, 3 fixtures over Easter either Fri/Sat/Mon or Sat/Mon/Tues. You'd also often play the same team twice- I'm fairly sure in our 1st season back in the 2nd Division we played Blackpool at home on the Saturday & away on the Monday.

Just checked this out.
70/1 we played Brighton away on Good Friday, Shrewsbury away next day and then Barnsley at home on Easter Monday.
71/2 it was Wrexham away on Good Friday, Swansea at home next day and Bristol Rovers at home on the Monday.
72/3 it was Luton away on Easter Saturday, Millwall away on Easter Monday and Sheff Wed at home the next day.
73/4 it was Hull away on Easter Saturday, Blackpool on Easter Monday at home, then as you correctly said, Blackpool away the very next day.
I think this was the last time we played three Easter games in four days.

Easter Monday fixtures? I'm going to two games. one at Leamington, one near Solihull in the evening, broaden your horizons!

If you tried you could almost certainly get in four.
