At least we can give him a clap and sing some songs about him before he inevitably does score one or two

He knows about it now, according to his Twitter.

I don't think we would release him now. It is entirely plausible that we did it in January and it only came to light today when questions were asked regarding his eligibility.

Is the right answer.

Although bizarrely on the OS it says he is on loan

Clicky

Aston Villa can confirm that John Carew has agreed to join Stoke on loan to the end of the season.

The 31-year-old Norwegian international has scored 48 goals in 131 appearances since he came to Villa Park from Lyon in January 2007.

A fans' favourite, the club wishes him well for the remainder of the season.

“Villa cancelled his contract and we took it on until the end of the season, so he can play" - Pulis upon being asked about Carew's eligibility,

Villa canned Carew contract

By DEAN SCOGGINS

Published: 23 Apr 2011

TONY PULIS has revealed that John Carew CAN play against Aston Villa today - because the Midlands club cancelled his contract.

It had been understood that Stoke had taken the 6ft 4in striker on loan until the end of the season.  But boss Pulis said: "Villa cancelled his contract and we took his contract on until the end of the season, so he can play.
"John is fit so he will be involved. He will relish going back, I'm sure."
Carew, 31, fell out with Villa boss Gerard Houllier.
Their fiery relationship went back to their days at Lyon when Carew   described the Frenchman as the worst manager he had worked under.
Carew, who has just recovered from a back injury, might have to make   do with a place on the bench after the fine displays of Jonathan Walters   and Kenwyne Jones in the FA Cup semi-final.
But Pulis added: "Whether Carew is on the bench or he starts, he will play."

At least this means we're not paying his wages.

My only question is, if he was released in January, why did'nt the club announce that he had left?

Sorry what's the big fuss? He hasn't exactly set the world on fire at Stoke and he is not Didier  f in Drogba or Darren  Bent!

Yeah, why tell us if players have been loaned or sold or whatever.

Who gives a fuck.

Maybe not, but it's a bit strange how the club kept it quiet that he'd been released.

Lets face it, if he was still here we wouldn't exactly be expecting him to score for us. He's finished, and even taking into account the "goal from an ex-player" rule, i'm still not too worried
