I sit in the Trinity Road family stand and still duck whenever Heskey lines up a shot.

When I used to go to the ice hockey matches in the USA, an announcement was read out before each match saying that since the pucks may leave the playing area and spectators could be struck, you should leave now if that causes you any concerns.

AFAIK No one ever got sued - but I did see lotsa supporters get hit in the bonce and go out for medical attention. They usually came back looking like Terry Butcher.

I would be most disappointed if the supporter won this case. Its says it was quite a serious injury, but exactly what precautions are Sunderland supposed to have taken to prevent such an accident happening ? What it probably now means is that none of their supporters can now ever gain admission to watch them training, no doubt other clubs will follow suit after receiving advice from their public liability insurers.

I was quite close to writing a strongly worded complaint to the Villa after burning my mouth on a steak and kidney pie before the Athletico Madrid game a few moons ago, it was blisteringly hot.

I ended up just adding it to my list of things to blame Doug for.

What it probably now means is that none of their supporters can now ever gain admission to watch them training, no doubt other clubs will follow suit after receiving advice from their public liability insurers.

Speaking as one of those said insurers our issue is all down to risk assessments and H&S.  If the club did everything reasonable to keep specatators safe and it was 'one of those things', then the claim is defendable.  It shouldn't effect other clubs greatly as you would expect them to already have their's in place and other than banning fans there's not a lot else you can do.

As it goes I expect the club and the insurers will not want this dragged out due to negative publicity and it'll be settled early doors.

I can't understand why someone would want to sue their football club. If you support them, 'love' them, then you'd just ignore something like this.

At the risk of sounding old fashioned i hate the words risk assessments and H&S it really has gone to far because of this suing fashion age we live in.

Just because someone at work set the fire alarms off because he was a knob head who couldn't use a microwave i had to waste my day and go on a microwave training course.

I like the good old days when common sense applied and you couldn't sue people for ridiculas issues, okay if its serious negligence on the behalf of the company but we all know that  its someone trying to make a cheap buck

I should sue Steve Staunton.

At Forest, years ago, I was sat with my mate just to the left of the goal and the lads were warming up for the game. Staunton hit a screamer, as he quite often did, but I was looking away at the time. I only turned to see what was going on as the ball struck me smack in the face, to a collective 'ooooooooo' from those around me, and much hilarity to my mate.

Bastard.

Are there not some grounds who have big nets behind the goal to stop this kind of thing on match days?  I was once sitting in the Holte when Petrov hit a screamer in the warm up, the only problem being that it was about 5 foot wide of the target and heading straight for my missus until she ducked and it struck me smack on the forehead.  Needless to say she was most concerned once she'd finished laughing!! I did think at the time that as there were no warning signs up and it was in the warm up ie prior to when you would expect Petrov to be firing the ball into the crowd that the club were leaving themselves open to some greedy money grabber to take them to court.
