Contenders for Signing Ashley Young
« on: March 24, 2011, 11:06:24 AM »
I don't know whether this deserves a thread of its own.

The main headline on the back page of todays Times:

Liverpool have indentified Ashley Young as their leading target for an extensive summer building programme, and their priority is to beat ManUre and Spurs for his signature. Apparently Liverpool tried to sign Young in the final 24 hours of the January transfer window, but Villa were unwilling to sell and at that time remained hopeful of persuading him to accept a contract offer of £80,000 a week, which would have made him the best-paid player in the club's history.

Still can't believe Man Utd would want him, he's simply not good enough for them.

He's Liverpool bound.

i wouldn't say the mancs options are that good. giggs is way past even veteran stage, nani etc., flatter to decieve. he's a good player in the right team and would do a job for them

As Von Bentleburger said above, he's nothing like good enough for Man United.

Maybe, but then I'd say the likes of Fletcher and O'Shea aren't either, and Ash is at least as good as them.  Playing wide in a side like there's I think he'd prove to be worth the £12m or so they'd be paying for him.

If he plays to his best he is. Remember a couple of years ago when we all laughed at the idea of selling him for less than £30 million? I doubt Fergie would waste him in the middle, he would be (annoyingly) brilliant for them.

At least let's get an auction going, then we might get a little bit more for him.  I don't care where, highest bidder please.

I would prefer him to go to Man U to be honest, at least he'll win things.  I know we're a shambles at the moment, but I really don't think Liverpool are that much better than us, so it will be like Barry and Milner going to City.

And we will miss him, we really will.

Didn't they come through the ranks?
They haven't had to shell £15m out for them.

I think AY would be perfect for the bin dippers

Lets be honest both think they are much better than they really are

I wonder given last season and this, is he past his peak form?

I wouldn't mind him going to Spurs if it meant we could keep Walker.

I have only watched AY in the flesh so to speak this season and last season.

IMO he has been good but nothing above that. The only player I have seen in this time who was doing the business week in week out was Milner
