Richard Dunne would be good but not on this season form.

I think we got captain of Bulgaria, Wales, and Ireland and none of them is ideal.

In the fullness of time I think in will be Ciaran Clark.
Yes NRC now and Clark to start the next season with a fresh look about the team.

I don't see anyone at the club that I class as captain material. Which is probably one of many reasons we're so much in the shit.

About right , no leaders , no passion from any of them.

Give it a rest, please.

I'd go for NRC as captain.

To give someone the captaincy who will not sign a contract is wrong in it's self. ... I'm struggling to find one for us but probably NRC.
A bit of a contradiction, no?

Possibly Downing or Cuellar.

Actually, why not Friedel? he's definitely the most experienced.

NRC was on the pitch from the start on Saturday, when did he try and lead us? I never saw him being vocal and/or trying to encourage, gee them up or give them a kick up the backside. The only one I saw do that was AY.

I agree that Clark could be a captain for the future, but looking at the senior players, despite all the internationals etc I can't see any of them stepping up to the plate. Well apart from Dunne if it's piled high with cream buns.

Why not Downing, he's an experienced player, plays most games, looks like he'll stay beyond the end of the season and hasn't got the petulant streak that AY has

Have said this elsewhere, but as well as bringing players in during the summer we need to bring in somebody who will be a leader - a Terry; Gerrard; Keane; Viera.  Since Mellberg/Laursen left we have not had a leader on the field, Petrov was OK but not inspirational.

No Petrov nor Barry were leaders at all really. I agree that we need to get one. I would have gone with Collins 2 weeks ago - captain of Wales now too so got that to back him up, but he has somewhat pissed on his chips. I think missing out on Samba was a blow in Jan, apparently he lead the team talk at Blackburn to inspire the comeback for the 2-2. We could do with a bit of that.

Wasnt he captain when Boro went down? Downing hides under pressure, its why he failed in his umpteen chances with England. There is no choice for captain really at the moment, the obvious choices - Reo Coker, Petrov and Dunne are all leaving at the end of the season if Houllier remains. From a pure experience perspective, Friedel probably should be but he is in rank form imo.

I know his contract is due but I didn't know he had been offered one. I got the impression Ashley doesn't want to discuss one until the summer. Has NRC taken the same stance as Ashley? If so I don't know. Like I said we have not got a abundance of leaders have we.
