Reasons to be cheerful.
« on: March 21, 2011, 07:14:58 AM »
As we stare into the abyss, its sometimes hard to stay positive about our beloved club.
Perhaps we almost revel in coming on here and talking about how bad we are and how much worse its going to get.
Emotions swinging from anger in varying degrees at anybody vaguely associated with AVFC to fighting calls for unity, then breaking out into a cold sweat and helplessly blarting onto your keyboard.

Well its a lovely sunny morning in Brum and there must be some positives on the horizon.

For starters, we have no more games in March.

Maybe Houllier will fuck off in The Summer, or even better, in the next two weeks.

There, I feel better already.

Chris Herd a good game at centre-half, despite playing out of position. And looks a great prospect for the future.

On the plus side, I managed to get to work this morning without shitting myself. And given the state of my bowels today, that is a real bonus.

There are no reasons to be cheerful.   Paradoxically if we can accept that, that is a reason for seeing better times ahead.   Why should that be so?   Because we are facing up to reality.
A bright future for Aston Villa cannot be built on on the pretext that we can play pretty triangles on the edge of our penalty box.   Only two or three teams in europe can do that successfully and we are not one of them.   We do not have the experience or the confidence or the coaching to do it.

We have to build a future based on fitness, team spirit, leadership, good coaching, defending and attacking from set pieces and doing all the simple things well.

There is nothing to be cheerful about because every one of those necessities for a successful Villa side is not there.

The single most important thing Graham Taylor ever said at Villa Park was "forget what you used to be like, this is what you are like now."

He blocked one cross that looked like a certain goal in the making.

OK, at times he and NRC may have looked like they'd never met before when it came to passing but overall I was very impressed with Herd

I thought Herd did well the only thing that worried me slightly about him was him dwelling on the ball too long at times that a decent team would have punished.

having said that at least he showed some spirit and fight

It would be a good omen if Herd made the grade for us.   Neat to have a player mentioned in our anthem. "...when all at once a mighty herd of red eyed cows he saw Yippee Ai Ay etc etc."

Nothing to do with luck more to do with sheer guts and determination, which seems sadly lacking.
