Derby Cup
« on: March 13, 2011, 09:56:30 AM »
Hey I was wondering what people felt about if we had a cup either between us and the dark side or in general for the Midlands area i.e. a trophy for a mini-league table made of results in the premier league between clubs in the Midlands?

It would be massively biased towards us really.

Dunno, think it'd be a waste of time.

Let us know what the FA, Premier League and UEFA say after you receive their replies.

To be fair to John, I don't think he means having a separate competition - instead having a mini league table for the Midlands based clubs on what the results are in their respective Premier League games.

For example, the current table would be -

Stoke - P6 W3 D1 L2 F10 A7 Pts 10
Villa - P5 W2 D2 L1 F6 A5 Pts 8
Boggies - P6 W2 D2 L2 F9 A9 Pts 8
Wolves P4 W2 D1 L1 F5 A4 Pts 7
Blues - P7 W1 D2 L4 F6 A11 Pts 5

Would you call it the Birmingham Senior cup and all the senior clubs would enter their youth teams and all the leading "amateur" clubs woud play them?

Birmingham Senior Cup Founded 1875
Region West Midlands
Number of teams 32 (5 rounds)
Current champions Nuneaton Town (9th title)
Most successful club Aston Villa
(19 titles)

Nothing wrong with an idea, but considering the 'effort' we put into European and FA Cups, what are we going to put into this ?

They used to print the Midlands head-to-head (along with another two for the North-West and London) in the programme. Stopped when we were the only top-flight side in the region and hasn't returned.

Am I the only one that thought this thread would be about horse racing?

Sorry if I didn't make that clear enough that's exactly what I meant, I'm not saying any extra games only the introduction of a actual cup for the best team in the Midlands for the season who are in the premier league (maybe call it the Midlands cup)!

So that we pull out of the FA Cup more often?  That's just what we need, more games.

Would make the midlands look a bit small time to be honest.
