My first ever trip to this event next Thursday.  I'm not really into horse racing or gambling but most I know who have done this festival have said it's a good day out.

Would appreciate any tips for Thursday's card.

Haven't really looked at Thursday's races. The big one is the World Hurdle and Big Bucks is aiming to make it 3 on the trot, if he gets any bigger than 11/8 wack half your budget on him and hope to enjoy the massive roar as he comes up the hill.

Ignore everyone else's advice and don't have your head stuck in The Sun pull out guide. Drink some beer, have a few laughs and pick horses you like the name of, between 10 and 15-1 on each way bets. You will have a cracking day.

Get the Racing Post on Monday, it gives you the lowdown on the whole festival.

Is the correct answer.

I'm going Friday as I've done for the last 20 years or so. It's like the best ever boozy away game without having to worry about the score.  Can't wait

I agree with the above there is no stress about your team losing.

Binocular is out of the Champion Hurdle.

Just enjoy it as it is a great day out and like you i'm not a huge racing fan, it's not cheap but you'll meet loads of characters, always bet on the Irish horses because they love the gold cup week and do all they can to win a race.

This is exactly what I said when describing the day to someone the other day. I too am going on Friday. i have been the past two years and have managed two winners each time. Last year was brilliant. Nothing massive, but I managed to start the day with £130 in my wallet, had a breakfast in bham for £5, paid for my travel on a minibus with mates for £20, bought a round in the pub in Cheltenham for about £25, Ate a pork bap for something extortionate in the course and a small round for about £15 in the course. I came home with about £140 in my wallet!

My Lucky 15 for tomorrow is:
Spirit Son
Great Endeavour
Peddlers Cross
Banjaxed Girl

Only staking £1.50 in total, just trying to raise a bit more betting money for Friday!

Local media is saying that hotel bookings in 'Nam are down this year.

Based on my failed attempt to get to the local Sainsburys just now, I'd say that more people are staying out of town and driving in.

I'm two and a half miles from the race course and the queue for the horse-torturing stretches back past the end of my road.

I've gone for them, and also American Trilogy making it a lucky 31.
