Ash is the best option in this team at the moment. Rooney has missed as many as Ash this season. Bent's penalty taking record is not very good and his style is laughable. Leave it with Ash  till a leader emerges. Penalty takers have to be intelligent footballers and sure footed. Our recent best Barry and Milner fitted that criteria.

Bent's technique is good he aims right for the corners and has a really good record.

Law of averages Young was gonna miss one sooner rather than later...never inspires me with confidence from the spot. Doesn't really blast it even, just gets it on target. Give them to Bent....

What's Bents pen taking record like

Can Bent kick that far?  That's a whole 12 yards you know.

I would have Bent on Pens simply because he does pretty much nothing but score goals, so scoring pens will help keep his confidence up.

Why do they have to be intelligent?  Julian Dicks came across as far from intelligent but he took a mean penalty.  Phil Neale rarely missed for Liverpool but didn't seem to be that bright.

In any case I don't think Ash would pass too many intelligence tests.  As I've posted on the Ashley Young thread, I though it was incredibly stupid to try and place that pen yesterday when the keeper had offered him 2/3 of the goal to aim at and he placed it softly exactly where he put it last week in a very saveable area of the goal.  It was crying out to be blasted as the keeper would have had no chance from where he was standing.

I reckon wuss boy could take a mean pen, he seems to have a good blast on him.

Ok I did not mean they have to brain scientists  or rocket  surgeons  ;)  . They have to have a football brain like Teddy Sheringham, Dion Dublin etc. Wayne Rooney may not have many A levels but he has an excellent football brain.

The best penalty taker has got to be Matt Le Tissier - didn't he only ever miss one penalty in his career?

Edit - According to Wiki he scored 48/49.

Correct, Mark Crossley saved it!
