This is the best bit - seems to be missing from the text posted; this is the Sunday Mercury version:
http://tinyurl.com/6dll2ba

"After 15 matches on the bench Houllier told me to stay at home," said Ireland, who is hoping to make his Newcastle debut against Everton this weekend.

"I trained during the week and on Fridays he told me, 'no point you coming, you are not in the team'.

"Yet I was the best player in training. It was my team that won in every session. One of the few times he played me, we drew 0-0 at Chelsea and I ended up man of the match.

"Apparently that didn't matter to him. I was stuck with being paid for doing nothing at all. I was left to myself. I had to pay out of my own pocket for medical treatment. Can you believe that?"

Interesting assertion. I thought he was poor. No-one thought he was man-of-the-match here

After reading that interview I can't believe that I actually stood up for Ireland when he was here, hoping that at some point he'd sort himself out and come good.

I've now realised that he's just an inflammatory bellend. Goodbye Stephen!

The only newspaper he'd be Man of the Match in is The Daily Cock. And that's only when Old Blind Willie McNolegs isn't playing.

He hates Ireland yet he has it for his surname!
Can't knock him for that, I detest people who make arrows.

Nice one.

He's a prize knob jockey isn't he?  "I don't know where I'll be playing next season..."
Well spouting shit like this in the media is not going to impress any prospective managers, is it?  What's that smell? Oh it's a bridge on fire!

Surely fake or atleast exaggerated quotes?

From a French paper - so English, slightly misquoted and then poorly translated into French and then back again into English...

I can't believe he'd say some of that stuff..

Sporting life are pretty reliable.
They wouldn't reproduce it without checking over it first.

The Stephen Irelands of this world make me hate football.

He is everything that is wrong about the game.

I used to say that sort of thing when I was nine years old.

He sounds like Ben in Outnumbered. "I should be cap-tain!". Sure you should, sure you should.

I normally have sympathy for the mentally ill but not this ringpiece.  I hope he burns his stupid poxy house down the next time he's cooking some chips.

I was delighted to learn from somebody who deals with many footballers and sports people that Stephen Ireland is the biggest c**t he has ever had the misfortune to deal with.
