As all the above have said, theres a difference from being a great player and a legend(and he was a very good player). He gave his all in every game, was one of us,and the fact that when he was at Sheff Wed he stood on terraces with the rest of us sums the guy up,i just wish he came to us earlier in his career.

Legend is a bit of a wanky word but Ian Taylor is up there with the top Villans because he was one of us and it showed every time he pulled the shirt on.

I'm chuffed that he will now be part of the public face of the club.

Taylor is the nearest we've had to a fan that has played for the club, but remained a fan.

He couldn't have been more clear about the result of the match on Sunday in last nights E+S column, instead of trotting out the standard lines. That tends to set him apart and makes him so popular.
Spot on, it was so refreshing to read a column where there was no 'fence sitting'.
I particularly liked 'I have lots of blues mates and I hope they have a great day out-and get absoloutly stuffed'.
Top man, as always!

I don't think of Ian Taylor as a legend, I see him as one of us who made the dream a reality.  Good luck to him in his new role.

Taylor was a fine player for us. But Villa legend? Na, never in a million years.

I disagree.

A legend does not have to be about being the best player ever, it can also be about being a local hero, a player who always gave absolutely everything in nearly every game, and a player who was a local lad, a Villa fan and who was truly living the dream.

For me Ian Taylor fulfils those criteria and is, for me, and in my opinion only, a Villa legend.

Football Legends in my mind are first and foremost outstanding in their profession, it's a bonus if they are good approachable people in the Taylor mode but the important bit is being outstanding at football.  Do you think fans would have stood for McGrath's antics had he not been an outstanding footballer?  Does Andy Gray (first time around) lose his legendary status because he's showed the nation what a twat he is?  Does Gordon Cowans also lose his because he chose to leave the club to ply his trade in Italy?

Anyone's who doubts that Ian is a legend can't have stood with him on the away end in the shit house that is small heath. Probably watching at home in the warm criticising us with their 'legend' andy gray ;-)

Good stuff, he's a top bloke.  He'd have run thru a brick wall to get onto the pitch for Villa.  Always gave everything and never shirked a challenge that I remember.  He could teach some of our current team a thing or two about dedication and commitment. Legend ;)
