I'm more bothered about our dismal commercial figures

Just looking at that list, is it me or is every team on it a regular in the Champions League apart from us?

It used to be a Spurs 'boast' that they had the highest turnover of any club that had never been in the Champions League. I suppose that if Man City qualify, that will be us.

BTW, Risso or anybody, was that turnover for 2008/09?

Perhaps Villa were boosted into 20th place by six home cup games last season, and a cup final.

Gates for cup receipts are shared.

Not only that, but I've heard our next accounts are due at the end of this month. Surely those will be the ones pertaining to last season? Deloitte always seem to overlook this anmd make the same mistake every year.

Just thinking about it, PR/perception of the club is related very strongly to commercial revenue.  It's a massive area that we need to work on and develop.

The report says…
Generally, clubs which have established brands with
history and tradition augmented by support that reaches
beyond domestic markets are the most successful in
driving commercial revenues.

Villa Commercial €16.0m (£13.1m)

Spurs Commercial €38.5m (£31.5m)

Man City Commercial €57.0m (£46.7m)

That Man City figure looks suss.

It wasn't that long ago when Man City and ourselves were neck and neck in this league table- indeed, I think we were ahead of them.  Obviously we haven't the money behind us that they now have but I would say we are a far more marketable club in terms of history and stature.  I think we are very undervalued when it comes to sponsorships.  Thanks for the figures Villadawg.

Man City are like owned by a country, they have spread globally, so have spurs which is why they spent pre-season in the USA.

We don't do that and are not a commercial brand worldwide.

I think the next 5 years is going to be good, because there isn't going to be the set 4 teams in the CL every year.
There is a top 5 this year pushing for 4 places and there is no reason why us and Liverpool can't join in next season if all goes to plan.

Can't Randy bring us to Cleveland in the summer and make the natives like us?

Just a bit.

On top of a massive shirt sponsorship deal with the Abu Dhabi state airline Etihad they have deals with the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Etisalat, the Abu Dhabi state telecomms company and Aabar, an Abu Dhabi state owned investment fund.

So that's UEFA's financial fair play rules sorted isn't it?

You don't have to file accounts until 9 months after the end of accounting date, so it can all get a bit complicated comparing one against the other, but I'd assume Deloitte would compare accounts for the same season, or it is all a bit pointless.

Exactly right.  I've said all along that these rules are a load of nonsense.  There's going to be some sort of "anti-avoidance" committee but are they really going to be able to say that Man City's income isn't "legitimate."  I'm guessing not.

They work with what they can get hold of - as long as the comparison charts highlight the financial years for each club, it's okay.
Although I agree, Percy, that it does make like-for-like comparisons difficult!

All very well paulie, but they clearly state they're talking about 2009/10 and going on about cup runs etc., when nobody but Villa and their accountants know the figures yet.
