I like running tracks round stadia. Like in Rome, Old Wembley

Know what you mean. Although Wembley wasn't a running track

It's a scandal that any private company can move into a building funded by public money without paying for it.

It's not exactly free. They're converting it using £20m from the sale of Upton Park, borrowing £40m from the council, the other £35m is from the Olympic budget and was available to any bidder.

Something had to be done with the stadium and this way it. in theory, becomes an asset to the local community.

I like running tracks round stadia. Like... Munich.

It was an awful place to watch football in; great big hopeless soup-bowl of a stadium, like watching far away ants.

Still not the £500m that it cost to build though. Plus all the work that's been done extending platforms at every DLR station, improving rail links etc.

West Ham havent paid a penny for this.

You only have to drive past the Olympic Village to see the scale of the work being done there. We're not talking about the City of Manchester Stadium here, it's more like an entire town being built from scratch.

Something stinks

It'll be the best stadium in the second division.

I've not paid a huge amount of attention to this, but from the little I do know I have to (reluctantly) say that West Hams bid does seem a better all round package.  The issue I have with it is the fucking smug faces we'll see off them and Brady - foot through the telly time!

From our perspective, Spurs have been a close rival up until this season and them getting the added revenue of an increased capacity for basically no outlay would be an unfair advantage, so it ultimately helps us.

I've no idea. But if we're spending that much money I would have expected this kind of decision to have been made long before the first brick was laid not 12 months before the Olympics actually start

Although I know what I wouldn't do with it - give it to a football club.

Sticks in my craw, knowing I'm paying extra council tax to give West Ham a new ground

My London knowledge isn't great, but why didn't they just total rebuild Crystal Palace and spend the difference improving the infrastructure and transport links around it?  That way athletics has one top notch venue in the capital and football can fend for itself.

Because, when we go on about the media being London, London, London all the time, what they really mean is North London.

I don't know whether there is really the space for a transport overhaul in the area too.

I agree with you to an extent but the whole basis behind the Olympic bid was to leave a legacy, not just in terms of the stadium but also infrastructure in the area. Having a multi purpose stadium, which is what they are proposing, seems to me to be the best outcome for the locals.

It may be proposed as a multi purpose stadium but athletics involves a lot more than running around a track.

I can't see a top flight club allowing the pitch to be used as a centre field through the summer when every other club treats theirs like a spoiled poodle.

There will be a few community events before Crystal Palace resumes it's role and West Ham only open the doors for football.

If there are to be any other uses they will commercial events such as concerts and corporate events. The local school pratting about with bibs, cones and lightweight shot-putts just won't happen.

The owners will then have a money making asset worth more than anything they have to borrow.
