Brad Guzan
« on: February 06, 2011, 11:50:00 AM »
Just noticed Hull are doing pretty well - 1 defeat in the league since the start of November - and wondered how Brad was getting on up there.

Looking through a few Hull forums it seems the general consensus is that he's doing OK, he's better than Boaz Myhill (thank God!) but not as good as Arsenal's 3rd choice keeper, Vito Mannone, who they had on loan before.  The fans seem to want to keep Brad as a No.2.  There's also rumour on there that Brad wants out of the Villa (he's sick of never playing) and asked the club to let him leave rather than us putting him out on loan to get some experience.

Bit of a shame really as I had real hopes for him when he came over (I think he was the MLS's MVP the year before we signed him) but it seems he's not going to make the cut.

More importantly, Friedel's not going to last forever so I hope GH has his scouts out there finding someone else.  I can't think of any obvious choices out there...

Shay given and westwood come to mind, although we have a decent young keeper coming through who could maybe be our 2nd choice very soon- either way I don't think guzan will cut it at the highest level and would be happy if hull want him long term.

I think he will end up leaving and with big Brad getting on a bit we will invest in a new keeper in the summer maybe Given if he decides not to stay at City.

That League Cup game against Blackburn killed him, and I don't think MON ever picked him again after that. I wouldn't be surprised if we were interested in Westwood, which would free Guzan up to leave in the summer.

Yep, think we've seen the last of Guzan at Villa and we'll be looking for two keepers in the summer.

My farther in law is a season ticket holder at the kc and went with him on tuesday and brad still looks very shakey and isnt the ideal replacement for us great at shot stopping (as we know ) but very suspect at crosses and back passes.Championship goalkeeper yes next villa goalkeeper NO!!!!!

Who is this great prospect at Peterborough we are supposed to be considering?

Joe Lewis I believe. Been in an England squad but I don't know if he's any cop. Contemporary of Joe Hart's I think.

Some well informed mates of my son were raving about him on the way to the match yesterday.   Joe Lewis that's him.

If Guzan's not as good as Arsenal's third-choice keeper, then he's definitely not good enough for us.

Guzan let in a poor goal for Hull yesterday again from a cross, he is not the answer to Friedels replacement by a long way.

He will always be fondly remembered for his contribution in getting us to the Carling Cup Final last season (especially the Sunderland game!) but is nowhere near good enough to be Aston Villa's first choice keeper.

Shay Given for me please in the summer; proven top flight international keeper and would be an improvement on Big Brad

I said after the Blackburn semi that Guzan had trashed his chances of ever being our number one. Decent keeper but not quite good enough for where we intend to operate.
