Benjamin Siegrist
« on: February 05, 2011, 07:23:28 PM »
I looked at his official facebook page and it say his date of birth is
31 January 1992 and that mean he is 19 years old. He got a lot of promise as goalkeeper. Is it time to let him have a run and hopefully become our Victor Valdes / Iker Callias / Mark Bosnich before leaving Villa.

I have not seen him played yet. Is he good enough to be given a chance.

For his name alone he should displace those common Brads.

Friedel, on the whole, has played well this season.

Shay Given is the way forward.

Shay given or keiran westwood for me , but this young lad could well be a decent number 2 keeper, friedal is past his best and guzan simply not good enough to be even 2nd choice - both brads should depart in the summer.

I'd be surprised if Friedel is still our number one next season. Got a feeling Houllier will  look to replace him in the summer.

After Brad made them two errors today which cost us the game we should be thinking of a new goalkeeper for next season i have heard only good things about Benjamin so it looks promising.

Not seen much of Westwood but I saw the SHA v Coventry game recently and he had a poor game. I mainly watched it for him though so I may have been overly critical due to watching everything he did.

I like the look of this young fella, I think we need to show some confidence in him and make him Brad's deputy next season.

Friedel won't be our first choice next season, no way.

It's a tough one this. Friedal is clearly in his last season as number 1. The thing about these senior keepers is that they can go on a long time but when they start to go downhill they do so very quickly and when it does happen I'd rather it wasn't with us. So we certainly need to replace Brad this summer, however there's no way Siegrist for all his good reviews is ready. For me I'd buy Given (hopefully at a knockdown fee) and make him our number 1 for a couple of years, we can then loan Siegrist out next season maybe to a lower Prem side or at least Championship level and let him get his experience going. By then it won't be unreasonable to start thinking of replacing Given and he can be eased into the side.

When I saw Siegriest play for the youth team last season he looked an odd combination of the brilliant -a wonderful 'flip-over' save from a free-kick- and that horrible habit that some continental 'keepers have of punching crosses that they could easily catch.

By repuation, he's already played some outstanding games at youth level.

Wasn't he supposed to have gone out on loan to Tamworth earlier in the season?

We missed a trick not getting Ben Foster
