Strength of our youngsters
« on: January 25, 2011, 11:42:39 PM »
I think over next 2 years the bunch of young players that have come through could with the right signed players make villa Park exciting

Clarke looks a premership player to me already and has a number of positions he can play in
Lichaj- good few games a getting very close to being a member of our regular 18 man squad
Baker- starting to get involved in first team selection
Lowry- on loan at Sheffield United , see how he goes 2nd half of season
Gardner- great reserve come back
Delph- great potential and looks premership class when fit
Bannan- starting to establish himself in the premership regardless of his height
Albrighton- looks quality, future england international to me
Delf- just needs a first team run
Weimann- Looked good pre season and hopefully will do well on loan
Herd- again another edging around 1st team
Hogg- really improved when he got a run out

I dont remember ever having 12 players who looked like they could make it. If 5-6 make it for us they would be special

It is great of course but I just can't see how we'll be able to give all of them sufficent runs in the team to prove themselves - not when we want to improve and are willing to shell-out on proven quality i.e £20m on a striker.

It'd be a pisser for Bannan and Fonz, who have a lot of competition in their positions, to get bored of only playing the odd game and bugger off in 12 months.

I agree with the theme, however I am undecided about loaning potential out to play in lower leagues. My opinion is that you develop more quickly if you are exposed to a higher standard of football and by playing in the championship will only develop certain skills or behaviours and should be a very short term scenario.

Competative games must surely improve people, there are not many reserve games and sitting on the bench for most of the season isn't going to improve them.

I hope they all go on and make it nothing would make me more proud than that, we seem to have an exciting crop of youngsters at the Villa let's just hope they reach there potential at the Villa.

But it's also good for youngsters to appreciate playing at other grounds and realising how great a club Aston Villa is, not everyone has the facilities we have.

As long as they play I don't mind them going out on loan, I see Hogg played yesterday but with Watford flying I can't see Weissman getting much of a look in there.

I am really very positive about our younger players as a bunch - I think if 2/3 of that list make it to our first team as a regular that would be a fantastic result and we will get good money for the rest funding more investment in good young players

It was a pity we got knocked out of Europe before the league stage.  That would have been ideal to let some of the kids have a run out.
