Of course women know the off-side rule:

You’re in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shop assistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which you must have. The female shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eyeing them with desire. Both of you have forgotten your purses. It would be totally rude to push in front of the first woman if you had no money to pay for the shoes. The shop assistant remains at the till waiting.

Your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop and sees your dilemma. She prepares to throw her purse to you. If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other shopper and buy the shoes. At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead of the other shopper and, *whilst it is in flight* you could nip around the other shopper, catch the purse and buy the shoes. Always remembering that until the purse had *actually been thrown* it would be plain wrong to push in front of the other shopper.

Excellent explanation of the off-side rule Pauline!

Didn't we have a female line-o at VP a couple of seasons back? Seem to remember she did OK (amongst the chants to get her tits out etc)

Stick that flag right up your fanny`. Doesn't have the same ring to it though does it.

If Karen Brady wasn't a woman, her comments and opinions would receive the same coverage as any other unsuccessful football club administrator.

I saw her "Diary" this Saturday. Forgetting all her bollocks and lies about Grant, she apparently had a call from someone in Sunderland on Sunday to see if Randy had the money and was serious about buying Bent. Apparently she will know as she lives just two doors away from him in London.

Is this why Alladyce is commentating the Sky Chelsea-Bolton match on Monday night?

I wonder how many men understand your explanation!?

I sent the following to AV1874 in Aussie:

Female running the line at the Wolves v Liverpool game in the Premiership, excellent!

Comments on the BBC text commentary:

Liverpool goal: A big, big decision for our female assistant referee (or lineswoman). Wolves appeal for offside as Raul Meireles runs on to Christian Poulsen's pass down the right but Sian Massey is dead right not to flag because he is definitely on.

From Jack in Nottingham, via text: "Am hoping the female assistant referee escapes the stereotype that no woman understand the offside rule. Unfortunately for Wolves, she does."

Ironic that the lineswoman got a crucial offside decision spot on!
then 5 minutes later she got one incredibly wrong that went without comment.

Ah, but what if the throw is a bit rubbish and sails over your head? Obviously you aren't interfering with the queue at that point, but if the purse then hits the cashier, then her lowly assistant and into your arms, are you offside then? Eh?

And of course if the purse is red the off side rule does not apply

She got the offside decision spot on despite the crowd reaction and what's more she had great legs too!
