Be a risk to start with Makoun, I reckon. He'll only have had a couple of days with us and he's completely new to English football. Give hin 20 minutes and let him make his first start in the cup game.

True enough, Reo can start then.
I'd like to rest Albrighton, no need to over play him.

Houllier isn't afraid to make the changes that MON never did. Might as well keep players in form and tweak it gently.

How about this?

Friedel

Walker
Collins
Cuellar
Clark

Albrighton
Bannan
Reo-Coker
Makoun
Young

Bent

Give Gabby, Dunne and Downing a rest?

fook, what a difference a week makes  . 95% villa win at the moment , would have been 34% last mth..  Villa 2-0  Bent , Young

Worried about the effect yesterday's high intensity performance might have on us for this one. Our inability to pass the ball or retain it means we have to play in a way which must be very draining. I always thought the same during the MON era. Hopefully, that will be negated by the confidence gained from the City result and we can sneak this one 1-0 or 2-1

No need to play Reo-Coker AND Makoun. I'd rather see Makoun, Petrov and Bannan as a midfield three for this particular game.

Wigan is a MUST win game - no point beating City and losing there ...... lets push on and upwards - if everyone is fit same team and make changes when winning with ease in second half

We'll win. I'd also expect a few changes. Not sure if Walker will be available.

0-3.

Bent x 2.
Downing.

Friedel
Walker Collins Dunne Clark
Albrighton Makoun Petrov Downing
Young
Bent

Bench: Gabby, Cuellar, Heskey, Delfouneso, Bannan, Marshall, NRC.

Win and we'll be well clear of the bottom three, and then can hopefully play with a bit more freedom and confidence.

Wigan is a MUST win game

No it isn't, we've given ourselves a bit of breathing space with the Citeh win and have a run of very winnable games after Man Utd.
A draw wouldn't be a bad result.

This is a"must win" game make no mistake. Do not take the foot off the pedal. Man city was a fantastic result and to get anything less than a win would be a big step backward. Give Makoun 20 mins second half according to how the game is going ........

Don't see this as a must win game to be honest...four points from these two game would have done...6 would be fantastic.

I hope he does make changes and freshens things up...GH isn't a one trick pony so hopefully he will set the team up to play Wigan away, a totally different proposition from Saturday, and not go with the "never change a winning side theory".

Has houllier played 442 even once for us? I don't think he has, has he? Not convinced we do need to freshen things up, but if so I'd rest petrov or maybe albrighton.

We're heading up there so hoping for a convincing win.

I'll go 2 - 0 to us.

Young penalty and downing.
