That was a very special moment, especially for the lad involved.

I like Carew and think he started well for us.  Recently though, oh dear.........

When a professional footballer comes off the pitch complaining he is cold it sort of dims the admiration.

I hold no grudges.  The guy on his day was deadly.  He also had some character.  Good luck for the future.  At least he will have some ammo with Delaps throws.

Will go down as a Villa centre forward who underachieved and only showed glimpses of the attributes he had to terrorise defences when he was in the mood.

However, his record of 130 appearances (28 as sub) and 47 goals as a strike rate will compare favourably with most Villa strikers of the last 40 years.

Thanks for the memories John, hope you don't get a bad reception if/when you come back to Villa Park, i'm sure you won't but it will help if you score a couple of own goals for your new club in front of the Holte!

Considering he was a swap for Baros he did amazing.

He did ?

Our top scorer 3 out of 4 seasons. What more do you want? (excluding this season obviously when he's been shit)

Think his pretty poor final season and a half have overshadowed what was a very decent player to begin with. I agree he should've been better, although we knew what we were getting when he joined. A talented, yet ultimately frustrating, enigma.

Did a great job for a couple of years or so,he was the cult hero that we hadn't had in a while, but we need better than him now.

Good luck to him, thanks for some good times,

Why am I so sad that he has gone?  I have wanted him out of the team all season but now he has gone I feel a bit disappointed.  I think it may be because he was a symbol of the MON era and the hope and expectation we all had when he and Randy came (which we still have).  I really hope the Stoke fans don't nick our song for him, I'd be gutted to hear them singing that at VP next season.  Farewell big man, it was almost beautiful.   :(

Wonder how many on here will be happy with those sort of figures from our new £18-24M striker .

I thought he did well for us, good strike rate, but did have a tendency to blow hot and cold. Last six months just fizzled out. Then again, even last season when we didn't think he was right on his game, his goals kept up in contention right up until the end of the campaign. I still think if that thunderbolt had gone in at City, not hit the bar, we'd be in the Champions League now. Well, not now, necessarily, but in it at some stage.

Cheers big man. Loved the hat-trick against Newcastle.
