he generally has a record of starting off well at his new clubs and then settling into a more "comfortable" way of playing after a while... you may get the best out of him in his 6 month loan period, as he should be playing for a contract, however, what happens once he gets into his usual comfort zone, is anybodys guess...

history teaches us that he is a frustrating figure once that happens...

time will tell...

John Carew Carew
Stoke won't love you
They'll probably boo you
And that'll be the end of you

We love him already! Scored 2 on Saturday, (although one given to Huth for a unintentional touch when it was going in anyway).
But I think the move has been great for him, we may be higher up the table than you but we are a smaller club, he may feel a bit more love here than he was getting at yours probably down to GH. On Saturday his body language on the pitch was first class running for lost causes and playing with a smile. I think he will be as good a signing and Tommy so thanks and good luck for the season.

It may help him that you lump everthing in to the box!
Not always, but yes we did on Saturday.
Many fans (Villa) thought he wouldn't try for us though. Yes it's early days but he has ran his socks of so far.

That's what Carew always does when he moves clubs - does well immediately after the move.

It's probably the one single Villa related point every single person on this site would agree with.

I liked Carew, but his attitude towards the end with us was dreadful

My mate sent me this earlier

The keen-eyed amongst you may have noticed that Stoke striker John Carew unveiled some fresh ink not so very long ago, though you may not have spotted the rather embarrassing spelling mistake that lies therein.

The big Norwegian has had a tattoo on his neck that reads ‘Ma Vie, Mes Régles’ – which theoretically should translate (Babelfish approved) as ‘My Life, My Rules’.

However, a French professor at Oslo University has highlighted the fact that the use of the accent over the word ‘Régles’ means Carew’s motto translates rather differently.

Apparently, by incorporating an acute accent (é) instead of a grave accent (è), Carew’s daubings translate literally as either ‘My Life, My Period’ or ‘My Life, My Menstruation’.

Now, are you going to tell him, or shall I?

But, of course, that 'French professor' is talking out of his arse. There is no such noun as "régle", only règle.

a) La règle: rule or ruler (as in cm and inches)
b) Les règles: either "the rules" or "menstrual blood"

Sorry, only the lads in year 7 would miscontrue this one and be up for a titter.

You can say "Elle est bien réglée" though, which means "Her period is regular".

Carew can sue the tatoo artist for shite use of French accents though.

John Carew at his best shouldn't be playing for Stoke. And probably not for Villa either.

However, JC 2010/11 version (last Sat excepted, obv) would struggle to get in a Championship side.

It's too easy to criticise Stoke and say they just lump it in the box. I'm sure you'll settle for a bit more of that if it results in more 3-2 wins. Set pieces were a big part of our success in the early MON years, the most productive years of JC's time with us as it goes. Coincidence? Possibly.
