You may not want to read it or think about it but its right. He'd be gone if we finished the week in the bottom 3 and out of the cup wouldn't he?
Undeniable.
Lose the next 2 and he's sacked.

I'd say you're almost certainly right Mark.

I'm not so sure, I think Lerner will give him as long as possible to turn this round, because they view it as a long-term plan Houllier is putting in place, plus there are too many extenuating factors to solely blame the manager for Vill'a current predicament. It's not like we're adrift in the league, you put two or three good results together and you shoot up the league table. And with the run of games we have from mid-feb onwards, Houllier will be without any excuses come the end of the season. I simply can't see us being involved in the relegation battle for much longer, even if we do lose tonight and in the cup.

I could.
The defence is woeful and we're always likely to ship on average 2 goals.
Meat and drink for any opposing striker.
Darren Bent tonight will have me shivering like a shitting dog anytime the ball comes near him.

Also morale would go through the floor and fan reaction would make Houlliers position untenable.

I just hope to God it doesn't come to that.

Depends on the performances.  We haven't put together a run of two to three good ones yet, never mind results.  Two wins and I think we'll steadily improve over the rest of the season.  If the Chelsea performance was another Man U style blip and we go back to being crap, then get knocked out of the cup, I think he'd get the shove.  And would deserve to as well.

Which is all well and good, but it doesn't really need the squad to announce it, does it?

In some ways - obvious ones - he's walking a very fine line at the moment, it's hard to argue that every game is anything other than vital at the moment.

On the other hand, though, I just can't imagine Lerner sacking him, as to do so would mean "starting again" manager-wise in the middle of the season

If I were a gambling man, I'd have money on us finishing about 10th, but if we only scrape survival, those are the circumstances I could see him getting the bullet.

I wouldn't say that's a definite at all.

Thing is with this is that Pires is speaking from a position of security so can speak his mind. Houllier can cancel his contract but Pires isn't playing and doesn't need the money so he can easily go back home and give a gallic shrug of the shoulders. All it is is an opinion. No more valid than yours or mine, well mine is always valid so just yours.

Agree Dave.
You wouldn't expect comments like that from a man who he's just signed.

If the performances are poor and we lose both, defeat to Birmingham may well be the tipping point.

The substance of what he says is not really that controversial. I wish players were allowed to have opinions like this in England without everyone fainting with shock.
