Dunne: Well managed?
« on: January 02, 2011, 04:29:45 PM »
I thought Dunne was very good today, after being dropped for three games, the best he's been this season quite comfortably in my view. He looked motivated, determined and a good deal lighter.

Should we credit Houllier for some brilliant man-management?

Well he was so much better today, he was like the Dunne pre the league cup final. So i'd say give Houllier credit.

Ask me in 5 games time. As we saw against Utd, it's sometimes easier to raise your game for the big matches. We've been very poor since we played so well against Utd.

But signs today were promising. Dunney kept focused and put the yards in. He was almost back to his best.

I would hope Houllier can pull us together and get those not pulling their weight to really perform.

I also thought today Gabby really bust a gut and worked hard, and I hadn't felt that so far this season, even considering injury problems.

I agree Tom, we need to see if we can carry this on over the rest of the season.  At least though with everybody fit we'll have options again, even more so when Luke Young is back.

Agreed. We'll only know over the course of time. Today was a big game anyway and he was playing for his career here, so he might well have just been up for it. He needs to put in that performance a lot more before we start giving him or GH too much credit. Much, much better today though.

Initially yes, hopefully this is us seeing Dunne back to his best and not just him playing well because of the opposition and the fact the Sky cameras were there. Yes he was in no mans land when Drogba scored but Drogba is fantastic in the box.

They've clearly had a chat. A fully committed Dunne is a big asset to us, and if Houllier can get the best out him by giving a little then everyone's a winner. If in the summer Dunne decides to move on, then so be it. We need players of his and Ireland's ability right now.

Great game today, but we can judge in 5/6 games time. If only Ireland took the hint. At least Dunne's been professional about it

If this is the start of a comeback in form then we should keep him and save money on a new first choice CB.

Dicky Dunne at his motivated best is a lionheart and a colossus.

Much, much better. But their second goal was down to him missing a header by a light year. Still plenty of work to do.

A lot better from him and maybe he's responded to a kick up his big fat arse.

Early days though.

Id like to think so. I don't know if he'd lost weight, in my pub it's like watching a game in the fuckin hall of mirrors but he certainly played better.

even the great Laursen was guilty of that every once in a while. With a fully committed Richard Dunne you're going to get mostly really solid displays with the odd clanger thrown in now and again.

Made at least one awesome tackle.  Worth watching MOTD tonight just for that.
