Laursen: Fit-again pace ace Agbonlahor in fast lane for goals

Martin Laursen backs Gabby Agbonlahor to fire Villa forward.

From Pravda:

Quote
Martin Laursen has backed newly-fit Gabby Agbonlahor to once again show top-flight defences his precocious talent in front of goal.

Former Villa skipper Laursen is a big fan of Agbonlahor and the giant strides he has made since breaking on to the scene as a raw teenager.

The star striker has had a stop-start season thus far, with calf and groin injuries as well as sickness halting his progress.

But Laursen believes Agbonlahor has real class and will fire for Villa now he's in tip-top shape.

He thinks Villa's No.11 is a real asset because he can play in a pair or up front  or on his own.

He said: "Gabby has really developed and it's been great to see.

"The good thing about him is he can play that lone role up front. That's a massive plus point for the manager and the team. Emile can do it and Gabby can too.

"He can play up there by himself and Villa can have offensive players behind him.

"He doesn't have to have that partner up there with him now because he is so strong physically.

"He has always been quick but he has developed that physical strength that is needed against these big Premier League defenders.

"Obviously he has improved technically too. He can hold the ball up really well and part of that is because he is stronger too but also technically he has more experience now of how to cope with good, strong defenders.

"He can also score goals with his left foot - it's not just his right foot. He can strike the ball well with both feet. He is just always dangerous. He's just a good striker.

"Obviously when you play up there and play in every game you want to score goals. He is improving every season in that respect and that's impressive. He has done well. He works hard for the team too, which is very, very important.

"He's had a tough start to the season but I'm sure he'll start firing now he's back. That's great news for Villa, no doubt.

"I think Gabby is a top Premier League striker. He is only young but he has shown that he is one of the best strikers in the top-flight.

"The next step for Gabby will be to become an international striker and continue to score a lot of goals.

"He has the ability and more importantly he has the mental strength too. He wants to learn - and he has developed.

"The key is staying calm and working hard."
