Downing wants to pipe down and let his football do the talking! We definitely aren't to good to go down but I honestly think when the senior players come back and hopefully GH strengthens in Jan that we'll pull away from the dropzone and move towards the Europa lge spots.

If the squads general attitude is that they are too good to go down then they need to wake the fuck up.

I'm getting pretty tired of players speaking out in the media.  It's not rocket science, perform on the pitch.

Downing does not say that we are too good to go down in the quotes attributed to him in that article. That is the headline and the angle of Nursey's piece, as exemplified by the closing part,  "TOO GOOD? WE'VE HEARD THAT BEFORE, STEWART…".

Look at the actual quote, and ignore the spin:

Quote
"We shouldn't be where we are with the players we have got," insisted Downing. "We still have the players to get results and performances.

"But you don't want to get into that habit when you think: 'Here we go again'. We've got a massive game on Saturday, in which we've got to put things right.

"We have to be man enough to stand up and have a right go. We have a good team but we need to win games and get some points on the board as quickly as possible.

"West Brom, with it being a derby as well, if we get a win then everything looks a lot more rosy.

"Looking at the table, we are down there, but is it so tight you can soon fly up. Then we can go into the Christmas period looking a bit more confident.

"When you are shipping goals, it is tough to take and sometimes confidence can be affected as a team. But whether we are confident or not we have to fight for points."

There hasn't been anything 'too good' about us this season. In fact I think the best thing we did, apart from slaughter a woeful West Ham on the opening day, was go two-nil up against Man Utd. I'm all for self belief, but I also think you have to recognise your mistakes and put them right. The players can't help being interviewed, it's part of the job, but we should never be in a position where we have to talk about relegation. It's ridiculous.

No, in a word we're not.

Personnel wise, there are worse squads than ours.
But most of those squads down there are used to fighting it out, getting turned over on occasion but scraping enough points here and there to give themselves a chance.

Everytime a side gets the ball out wide at the moment we look like we'll concede, either by giving a foul away and not dealing with the set piece or direct from open play.

If you're not able to prevent a flow of goals it doesn't really matter what you do further up the pitch - and we're not doing much, lets be honest.

We'd need to win about six games between now and the end of the season and draw a few to top the 40 point mark.

Too good to go down? We've played well two or three times all season, we haven't beat anyone above 13th, our squad has a distinct lack of quality, theres no fighting spirit, our defence is a shambles and our manager is a blithering idiot who talks bollocks and doesn't insprire the players or fans. That'll be a no then.

Judging by Monday we are not too good - and hoping Heskey/Sidwell/Reo are going to save us is madness

This Coupled with a manager who's asked santa for the Liverpool FC calendar for Xmas (all 12 pages stuck together by end of boxing day)

If we don't sort out training (can be the only reason why a good defence now looks as nervous as an Israeli bus driver), buy a striker and a creative midfielder in Jan and hope the rest grow a pair and play for the shirt - we'll struggle

UTV!!

Misquoted bollocks in the Mirror. Well I never!

You could tell who wrote that article without looking at the by line.

He seems to accept we are in it. I just hope many of our other senior players have come to realise that too rather than pissing about as they have done.

With our defence, it's feasible that we could get sucked in.
Saturday is a big test, Albions defence is pretty shoddy too so could be a goalfest
