Face it, if we had won the vote to hold the World Cup in 2018 'by hook or by crook', would you be happy ??

No,they already make billions out of a World Cup,so lining their pockets with 'bribe' money would be a step too far. Though English football has virtually sold it's soul, getting into bed with FIFA would make us the ultimate football whore.

On the positive side, if losing the world cup makes milton keynes unhappy then that makes lucky eddie happy.

I absolutely despise Sepp Blatter.  The thought of further lining his pockets is just untenable at any price

I always hoped that we wouldn't win it. There's just one point that I don't think has been referred to before: since we didn't win it, it means that England have to qualify!

I found it shocking we spent £16m on trying to win the bid.

Isnt this country in enough of a mess without wasting £16m

What a waste of time

Does anyone know whether FIFA ever issued a weighting system by which the tenders would be judged?
I used to manage a lot of tendering processes and it was considered best practice to announce what the judging criteria would be so each bidder could ensure their bid was inline with expectations and also to stop people/companies wasting their money.

Russia and Qatar - from what the media have said - received the worst interim assessments yet both won the tournament.  Either the criteria was 1. how much will you pay us (bribes etc) or 2.  You need to be a developing market.

I know that I am being naive to expect such transparency and honesty but without it, why on earth would the UK commit £16m for the bid.

I genuinely hope the spanish/portuguese, british, US and australian press go to town on FIFA's ass.

Absolutely not. Our game is already a sham because of the way it is structured. We don't need to compound the problem.

No.

Are you suggesting Russia and/or Qatar did?

One word: Mulberry handbags.

A bribe, and a shit one. Flavouring our bid with palm grease, while failing to get us any votes.
