Trouble is the injured players are the ones everybody was slagging off last season. Selling our best midfield players and not replacing them means Ash is spending most of his time firefighting. Injuries/loss of form by Carew and Heskey and only Gabby up front means every time the ball is lumped forward it comes straight back. No one to meet any crosses that are worthy of the name. Lots of pretty passing in everywhere but the final third doesn't cut it with me. Only one decent chance in the second half for all our possesion. Think we are in serious trouble unless we buy wisely in Jan

Lots of nice passing. No penetration.

I have a bottle of single malt Laphroaig that I was keeping back for Christmas.

I'm going to start drinking it like cordial, big tall glasses and allsorts.
When I'm done I'll get a lorryload more to hopefully see me through to May.

With a bit of luck I might miss the rest of this season altogether.

Hows that for positivity.

At least you have the single malt. There's no booze in the house. :(

Dunne has to be dropped but I've been saying that for weeks and nothings happened. Even when Carlos was fit we still saw Coco the Clown giving his best Titus Bramble impression.

WE lumped it up the pitch throughout.  Same players as usual..... Dunne and Collins.

Did we balls!  We played some nice football and some good counter attacks.
Watch it again and count how many times the back 4 hoofed it straight to Dann and Johnson- more than a few I guarantee it

I thought we passed the ball around rather nicely in the second half.

We did. You can see that GH has been getting them to keep possession, even at the back. Just not sure Dunne is as comfortable on the ball than a Rio Ferdinand (or Anton for that matter)...

I'm staying very positive, I thought the Villa retained the ball very well and although in the last third we were very wasteful when in decent crossing postions.

My mate (Boro fan) reckons that the Villa will give somebody a good hiding sooner rather than later..

We are a better Football team. There has been obvious improvements. We need to defend better now.

Franz Ferdinand is better on the ball than Dunne and he's been dead nearly 100 years.

True indeed, but that is different to your first take on things which was 'throughout'. Which is incorrect in my view. It was a mixture of both which is how most teams, bar probably Arsenal, play. Problem is, it all used to be that hoof and hope on the counter attack and teams had found us out on that repetitive tactic...

The only trouble is I've been espousing the good hiding theory for at least 6 weeks.  However i concur that it will come at some point, hopefully against the Albion.

I'm all for good football.

But pretty patterns in non-threatening areas is very Mowbray-esque.

Did we create a hatful of chances last night with this pretty football? No.
Do we look like we'll concede anytime the ball comes remotely near our area? Yes.

So I don't see how continuing to play just as we are at the moment with no modifications will automatically result in a reversal of fortunes, or that some team is going to cop a hammering (unless that team is us. Again).

But seeing as this thread is titled positivity: 29 days and counting to the opening of the transfer window. Hard time of year to do business blah blah blah. Other clubs manage it somehow. Get it done Gerard, no excuses. Start with a new CB (or two) and take it from there.
