Crest improvements
« on: November 27, 2010, 08:45:39 AM »
I have always been very keen on the plain, simple, circular crest that we adopted in the mid Seventies.

(even if I prefer the darker shade of claret of the AVFC former players association)

I don't even dislike the simple blue rampant lion that standed out on the 1971 League Cup final shirt.

So, I  wasn't a great fan of the new crest when it was launched in 2007.
But  I must confess that recently, seeing how it stands out  on the shirt and the headed notepaper, it is grown on me, I like it.
Making a comparison with the shirt of the previous seasons, I notice that the crest is changed, in a slight but significant way.
Although I haven't read anything about  a crest change, I have the impression that the yellow of the lion turned darker and that even the blue of the background of the shield, that was very pale, became of a more intende shade.
These two changes improved our crest very much, imo.

Can of worms duly opened!

Wouldn't say I necessarily like the badge, more that i'm just used to seeing it now.

Little side issue but that shirt is better than anything we've had in my 15 or so years as a supporter, so simple yet much more affective

I like the new one.  It's clean, fresh and simple.  If we can win a few trophies with it on our shirts all the better.  I like it that the new crest is all around the ground too especially within the Holte End mosaic.

The one crest that makes me shudder is the striped one that we had previously - it reminds me of Doug Ellis era mediocrity.

I quite like the new crest, although the round badge is a classic!

As for the shirt i really don't like this years kit! Too many checks! Why we can't stick to a classic plain claret and blue top is beyond me, and we should also never play in claret shorts or claret socks at home! The best kit was the late 70's early 80's. Beautiful away kit too!

1. It doesn't say "Aston Villa"
2. Crests are for heraldry and cocks. It's a fucking 'badge' for fuck's sake. Who started calling it a crest? A fucking American, I shouldn't wonder. Tsk!

Irish and Italians call it 'crest', so there.

Mind you, "Yorke that crest-kissing cock" gives one a pleasing alliterative semi.

After today's performance, I am riding along on the crest of a wave of mutilation.

Don't get me started on the cowardly lion.

When it was launched I thought it was pants.

I'm used to it now and I still think it's pants.

Is there a worse badge in the league? (SHA excepted of course)

I doubt many Americans would call it a "crest" or a "badge".  We are generally more concerned with how well the wearer is playing than what to call something sewn on a shirt.

Well it sure as hell beats the attempt that was on our shirts in 1998/99. That was crap.

Made this a few months ago, just to see if I could update the old round badge (which I love) & make the new one a bit less...pants. Knowing you lot, you'll hate it.
