Good news but why not the customary 4?
The smaller contract must be relevant to his stature at the club.

Good news but why not the customary 4? Hopefully it's us feeling he still has a lot to prove rather than his ''advisors'' not wanting him tied-down too long.

Regardless, he's certainly come a long way since choinkgate.
i think its something to do with houllier not wanting young players to think they have "made it" and stop learning / developing, ala luke moore...

im sure i heard him say something about it, as it keeps them hungry and wanting to earn another deal...

Graham hunter made an interesting comment on twitter yesterday that confirmed what many thought. Basically said he spoke to Houllier  who said how much he likes bannan and that he effectively saved his career because MON told barry he'd never make it as a professional footballer. Another sign that MON's time as a manager at the top level was over and that things are going to be very different now at villa. I really like the look of bannan.

Have to laugh I put a post on here in June/July about Bannan, and got slated for suggesting he could make it in the first team.  Have to laugh..............

I'd go as far as to say he seems to be the best passer of a ball we have. Tried some overly ambitious ones today but he'll learn. Will be interesting to see him v wilshere next weekend.

Distribution ability is top notch.

Think how he'd be in an Arse shirt ........

The one thing that bugs me a bit is his tendency to go for the sweeping ball over the top as soon as he receives possession. He's got quick feet and is good at keeping the ball, I'd like to see him taking players on a little bit more. Maybe that will come with a bit more confidence.

Should start every game. Him and Delph in the middle are the future.

No doubt he has great skills but lets not get carried away, he will need to play in front of a very solid defensive midfield set up because two things he can't do is tackle and jump for an aerial challenge. Just behind the key forwards is his go especially feeding through balls to Gabby.
