I thought that he occupied a space on the pitch and made a couple of good tackles. Nothing spectacular. He did grow in confidence as the game wore on though.

He had more of an impact on the match than Sidwell would have done.

You can tell he's played with Bannan a lot, though, looked very much like he was used to being told 'win the ball and give it to Wee Barry Bannan"

first 15 mins for him was like our whole team, looked dazed and confused, not just Hogg.  He settled with the team, and for me, broke up play, and found our players.  Simple, effective.  Good game overall

In the pre-match interview Houllier was asked to talk about Hogg. The reply was something like "he is not the finished article, but he can run, and I wish him luck". Hogg doesn't have as much promise as Bannan, but it's perhaps to early to say whether he will be a workmanlike Premiership player of a workmanlike Championship player.

A question for any regular reserves watchers, does Hogg usually play as the defensive midfielder player?

I thought he was poor first half and in truth had we had Reo Coker playing there we may have been a bit more composed towards the end, but second half he did ok. Can't see it long term, but certainly no worse a squad player than Sidwell, and 50k a week cheaper I am sure!

One game isn't enough to know one way or the other if he's got what he takes.

I thought Hogg was the weak link on Saturday, he did well tackling etc but looked scared to pass it anywhere but back too dunne or warnock.

Not the best game to make your debut, someone shit like Wigan might have been a bit easier but give the lad chance. You never know he's only a young and he's got plenty of time to improve.

His tackling and application were first class on saturday, was really getting stuck into fairly the nearest man. united player to him.

He gave away the ball very cheaply though on various occasions which hints at a lack of composure and technique so much so I thought NRC was out there!

Still as NRC and Muamba have shown, there is a place in the prem for those types of midfielders so intweresting to see how he'll pan out.

As expected for his age and experience, he has a lot to learn. But this was a massive game to debut in. He was still at least on par with Sidwell and seriously cheaper .........

I didn't realise it, but, according to the stats, Hogg is the same height as Barry Bannan. Fair play to the pair of them for the way they played on Saturday.

Great crunching tackle on Wes Brown, that apart I felt the game passed him by.
Seen him in the reserves plays centrally and never really stands out for me.
Let's not get carried away, I think we were down to the bare bones Saturday, but as GH says 'good luck to him'.

I don't think he's got 'it', sadly.

I was really shocked to see him get a game and surprised that he did way better I expected. He's better than Sidwell or Osbourne would have been.
