There just doesn't seem any thought or planning to Capello's squads anymore. At least that's the overwhelming impression I'm left with.

I like the squad tbh. Bothroyd has the talent and should be back in the top flight come next season anyway.

Hopefully this gives him the motivation to keep going, 'cos that's all he's ever lacked.

Thought Downing would have been in tbh.

I'm afraid there's no justification for smalling, wilshere or bothroyd being included, the first 2 are subs at  club level and the last is a journeyman who has never been prolific until this year despite being given plenty of opportunities at the top level.

Downing and Albrighton should both be in if it's been based on current form.

Albrighton and Downing must feel hard done by with the other players named.

Bothroyd I don't really have an issue with, scored in his last 7, 15 in total this season and been rumoured as a target for us for the last couple of windows, so been scoring for Cardiff for a while now. Why not give him a shot.

It's just pissing about from Fabio. What as the point of picking Kevin Davies last time and then ditching him straight away? Games like this afford the manager the chance to look at alternatives, waste everybody's time and energy then go back to the same tried and trusted line up of big name, small performance players who let everyone down and piss everyone off with absolutely no censure at the end.

So who do you pick instead? It's all very well saying Bothroyd shouldn't be there, so who should? As for plenty of opportunities = 11 games on loan at Blackburn and 18 for Charlton? I wouldn't call that plenty of opportunities.

And Wilshere has been more or less ever-present for Arsenal this season.

Sad day for  national football team as England Manager resorts to reserves and other players of dubious quality.

Wilshere is a regular and absolutely brilliant. Smalling has played a fair bit and shown he has the potential to be a starter for Man Utd.

Bothroyd is a shock but there is no doubt he has the ability to be at the very least a good top flight forward. He seems to have finally matured and he'll be in the top flight next season regardless - so why not let him have a taste of what he could be in store for should he keep this form up.

I'd prefer Bothroyd there than a 33 year old Davies, Zamora or bloody Can't Control.

Hart
Richards - Ferdinand - Terry - Gibbs
Walcott - Gerrard - Barry - Wilshere - Milner
Carroll

Is what I'd like to see. Barry doing the sweeping up role, Gerrard and Milner allowed the freedom to get about the pitch. Wilshere making himself open and keep the ball ticking over and Walcott getting close to Carroll.

I'd have a fit Zamora in the squad ahead of Bothroyd every day of the week.  And I wouldn't want either at Villa Park.

So would I.

But along with Bent, Defoe, Rooney and a time machine to bring back a 25 year old Jimmy Greaves it's not an option that's available.

Is Andy Caroll really the sort of person we want our children pinning poster on their wall of?

We do not want our daughters to end their sentences with prepositions.

Fabio obviously liked what he saw from a 2/3 fit Gabby today - the ability to completely destroy two of the best centre halves in European football.
Must have been when he clattered Vidic then told him to get off his backside. Or when he turned him inside out for the pen. Or when he took Ferdninand out and then just shrugged his shoulders at the ref. It's great to see Gabby back. When he's back you realise what havoc he causes defenders even if he isn't scoring.
