Bothroyd, lol. Downing and Albrighton shoulda probably been in before Young. Gabby has been injured recently, so odd choice..

Bothroyd?  It's an odd one.  I had to look him up to see which club he's currently at.

I'm all for giving an opportunity to players outside the top flight and he's in good form for Cardiff apparently but he's 28.  Hardly one for the future.

Bothroyd and Gabby are both odd choices, but who are the alternatives?

The top English strikers in the Premier League this season are Carroll (included), Bent (injured), Harewood (!), Davies (recently picked, getting on), Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Shola Ameobi and Luke Varney.

Why not give 14 goal Jay Bothroyd a shout? It's not like it's Shearer and Sheringham keeping Andy Cole and Les Ferdinand out of the side.

Is Andy Caroll really the sort of person we want our children pinning poster on their wall of?

Definitely not.

But then again, nor is John Terry.

I know Wilshere and Henderson are good players, but are either playing better than Downing right now?

I suppose because about the only consistent thing in his career has been his inability to score regularly in the Premier League.

It would appear that Cappello is attempting to build the most objectionable England squad in living memory. he might as well go the whole hog and pick Joey Barton.

It's a pity Rooney isn't fit, in this company he would be given a run for his money as far as acting like a c**t is concerned.

Fabio obviously liked what he saw from a 2/3 fit Gabby today - the ability to completely destroy two of the best centre halves in European football.

So... the alternative to picking the top scorer in the league below the Premier League? There's not a lot of point leaving an empty space in the squad.

I'm not saying he's a great, or even a good player. But if you're supposedly picking players on form, it's not the stupidest choice in the world.
