I hate it too. It's just really whiney.

It reminds me off that song Wolves sung after the Warnock tackle "If that was us, you'd send him off". Oh just shut up!

I want a bad ref to know it is HIM directly that is shit - not that we moan about refs week in week out - which is what this song says.

I've heard Wolves fans sing that again since, on tv during other games. Cringe worthy.

A very smart lady was sitting two seats away from me last night in the Lower Holte (it turned out that she is a magistrate, "sitting on the Dudley bench". She looked at me quizzically when the "shit ref" was in full flow, as if to say, "What are these words that I can't quite make out?". I explained that what she could hear was:

"Shipwrecked. We always get shipwrecked".

She was satisfied with this explanation and smiled, indulgently.

What an awful song.  I hate it!

It makes us sound so bitter and pathetic.  The world doesn't owe us anything.

Other fans must piss themselves when it gets sung.

Rant over!

Discuss...
Can't remember which game it was last season, but it was the first time I heard it sung. Anyway, 5 minutes later, the referee in question gave us a penalty. Cue a round of "great refs, we always get great refs". Made me laugh anyway.

Disallowing a perfectly good goal v a debatable foul throw?
A stonewall penalty v an offside decision?

I don't really consider those even scenarios.
The foul throw was a foul throw though, and not the first of the evening either.

Correct.

I don't know why they bother with the foul throw rule any more.  You see them in almost every game and they're never given.  I was surprised he gave one last night.

The disallowed goal was a complete joke...shit ref indeed.

Does GH get the opportunity to ask the ref, in the cold light of day, what he based his decisions on. The fonz goal for example - the ref MUST have seen something to give it but unless he is corrupt his eyesight must be too bad to ref because there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I can understand refs not giving something because they didnt see it but to give something that didn't happen is incompetent at best and possibly corrupt.

She is a poor judge!

Don't worry, from where I was sat last night it could hardly be heard.

So I very doubt the ref actually heard the song.

I don't really consider those even scenarios.

And neither do I Leeg. It's called satire.

Can you add a satire icon next time so we know when to look out for it? [adds ironic icon]

Baldy.

Baldy 'Taylor = crap'.  He's been fast tracked through?  I hope he gets fast tracked back down.  He really didn't have much of a clue.

Fast-tracked?  Where from, St Dunstan's?

This thread has become a discussion point on refereeing in general and last night's referee in particular. It was started as a focus for people's distaste of this chant and which I share. I don't think that it's wandering too far away from the subject to bring up, once again, the antipathy that many of us hold for the Paul McGrath chant, and I think that I'm right in saying that it was notable last night by its absence. Am I correct in this? I hope so.

The song aside, with a stonewall penalty and that terrible decision on chalking out Fonz's header we would of been 4-1 up going into the later stages. And, as we know when your only a goal ahead one thing can go wrong and your level again and it did, thank God Collins scored that goal.

If he didn't, the referee would of cost 2 points no doubt.

It seems that someone wants to moan about every chant that gets sung
