Cheers for clearing that up, Frank. Jibba81, I found it from this article.
That's an excellent piece, like everything Richard Whitehead has written about Villa.

The "Do you want to bet against us..." makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. My late dad always said that was when he knew Villa would win the league. And he wasn't noted for his optimism.

Some great quotes on here.

Yeah nice one Frank and nelrazor, that's the article I remember it from. I've got it penciled in for a reread at work tomorrow.

Can remember John Gregory was asked asked a question about being in trouble with the F.A. where he replied " It's ok i have set up a direct debit with them ."
Also Sir Graham Taylor was talking about David Ginola when the player left the Villa, Taylor was saying to him he wished he could of worked with him and the great quote was " If i saw you come back into your own half i would of subbed you."

Bookmarked it for tomorrow too, but it was just to tempting to read tonight.

Great line on my all time Villa favourite.

''God gave Sid a left foot that could unpick the lock of a bank vault and the gift of vision only previously bestowed on Clark Kent''
along with David Platt's “My ambition is to make a run that Sid doesn’t read.”

Brilliant!

A few years ago someoe bought me the 'LIttle Book of Aston Villa Quotes'.  There are some real classics in there and I'll try and dig it out tonight and post some.  For instance:-

David Ginola; "Birmingham is a great place to live."

David Ginola (a few months later); "Will this city ever run out of grey paint?"

Not an Aston Villa quote, although completely relevant to us, I particularly liked the quote that came from Birmingham City after they'd printed our honours in their diary: "We would also like to make it clear that Birmingham City Football Club has never won the European Cup."

"If there is a club in the country which deserves to be dubbed the greatest (and the matter is of some delicacy) few will deny the right of Aston Villa to share the highest niche of fame with even the most historic of other aspirants. For brilliancy and, at the same time, for activity in philanthropic enterprise, for astuteness of management and for general alertness, the superiors of Aston Villa cannot be found."

Thing with that was it was actually said with a bit of menace too, which kinda added to the whole experience.
